Google CEO Sundar Pichai likes 'Ted Lasso' more than 'Squid Game'

"Ted Lasso" wins the heart of everyone.

Ted Lasso will win over anyone, including Alphabet/Google CEO Sundar Pichai.

The CEO recently sat down for a wide-ranging interview with Bloomberg. During the interview, Pichai was asked to choose between the Apple TV+ series "Ted Lasso" or the Netflix series "Squid Game."

While Picahi says he enjoys both shows, he said that "Ted Lasso" was the easy winner.

The second season of "Ted Lasso" is streaming now on Apple TV+. Season two of the beloved comedy series continues to tell the story of Lasso, Coach Beard, and the AFC Richmond football team.

Since its debut in August 2020, the beloved comedy has continued to be recognized with a multitude of awards and nominations, recently earning Jason Sudeikis a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series and a Golden Globe Award in the Best Comedy Actor category. Report: iPhone SE 3 with 5G to launch in first quarter of 2022

What you need to know

  • A new report projects that the 3rd generation iPhone will launch in the first quarter of 2022.
  • The new generation of iPhone SE is expected to feature 5G connectivity.

iPhone SE lovers rejoice!

Apple is still shooting to release the third generation of the iPhone SE next year.

According to a new report from research firm TrendForce, the company plans to release a new 5G version of its low-cost iPhone in the first quarter of 2022. The firm estimates that Apple could sell as many as 25-30 million units in the year.

In terms of product development, Apple is staying with the plan to release its third-generation iPhone SE in 1Q22 and four models under a new series in 2H22. The third-generation iPhone SE is expected to be a major instrument in helping Apple establish a presence in the market segment for mid-range 5G smartphones. Its production volume for 2022 is forecasted to reach 25-30 million units.

With the success of the iPhone 13 lineup, Apple has reached second place in the global market share of phone production. Samsung still leads phone brands in the 3rd quarter of 2021.

Apple released four new iPhone models under the iPhone 13 series in 3Q21. Thanks to their contribution, the total iPhone production for 3Q21 registered a QoQ increase of 22.6% to 51.5 million units. With this result, Apple was also able to climb to second place in the global ranking.

The iPhone SE is Apple's entry-level iPhone. While it does not feature the modern design of the flagship iPhone models, it does contain the same software experience and a lot of the same hardware features for a much more cost-effective price.

Apple is no longer signing iOS 15.1 for the iPhone

What you need to know

  • Apple has stopped signing iOS 15.1.
  • Users will no longer be able to install iOS 15.1 on their iPhone.
  • The only version of iOS that is now available to be installed is iOS 15.1.1.

We must all say goodbye to the past.

Apple has stopped signing iOS 15.1 for the iPhone. This means that anyone who wants to install iOS must install iOS 15.1.1 on their device.

Apple is known to stop signing older versions of iOS to ensure that users are running the latest version of Apple's software for the iPhone. Newer versions of each software not only include new features and bug fixes but performance improvements and security updates as well.

Now, anyone who attempts to restore an iPhone will have only iOS 15.1.1 as an option. Those who are on the developer and public beta train can, of course, still install the iOS 15.2 beta.

While some do enjoy the option of downgrading to an earlier version of iOS as a backstop to issues with a newer version of the software, that opening is usually short. If you are running iOS 15.1.1 and experiencing issues, you'll need to wait until Apple releases a newer update.

iOS 15.1.1, the latest public version of iOS 15, fixed a bug that some users where experiencing where calls would drop unexpectedly.

Bottom line: The iPhone 13 is the best iPhone for most people, with impressive new cameras and notable improvements to battery life. Without all the bells and whistles of the Pro line, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini are still powerhouses that'll keep owners happy for years to come.

Apple rolls out new firmware update for Beats Fit Pro

What you need to know

  • Apple has released a firmware update for its Beats Fit Pro headphones.
  • Firmware update 4B65 was released for the wireless earbuds today.
  • It's unclear exactly what the update does for owners of the headphones.

You can't install it but you can enjoy it.

Apple has released a new firmware update for its Beats Fit Pro wireless earbuds.

Today, the company released firmware update 4B65 for its Beats Fit Pro headphones. Unfortunately, Apple does not release the details of what a firmware update contains so it's impossible to be sure exactly what the update did for owners of the earbuds.

Apple does not currently provide release notes for a firmware release like it does for its operating system updates, so we'll have to wait and see if there are any other noticeable differences between the previous release and this one.

Firmware updates, while sometimes containing more notable features, are commonly also used for the usual bug fixes and performance improvements.

There is also no way to manually initiate a firmware update for AirPods or Beats. The best thing you can do is keep your headphones near your iPhone and the firmware update should initiate on its own at some point.

The Beats Fit Pro, which Apple released in November, have similar features of the AirPods Pro while being focused on the fitness crowd.

Bottom line: Beats Fit Pro offer most of what AirPods Pro do with some added features aimed at keen exercisers. The look and sound great, integrate tightly with Apple devices, and help to block out annoyances with ANC. Outside of a plasticky case and uncomfortable fit for some users, there's not a lot to dislike.

Pokémon BDSP: Where to catch Charmander, Squirtle and other starters

The starters from Gens I through IV can all be caught in the Grand Underground.

We all have our own favorite starter from a specific generation. Fortunately, in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you can easily get 14 starters from Gens I through IV Pokémon games in the post-game. But to do that, you'll need to know where exactly to catch them. We've got you covered. Whether you're looking for Charmander, Squirtle, Bulbasaur, or one of the other 11 starters, here's what you need to do to unlock them, along with where to find them.

How to unlock other Pokémon Starters in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

You can only unlock the ability to capture starters from previous games after you've beaten all gym leaders and the Elite Four and then unlocked the National Pokédex. To do the second thing, you'll need to see all 151 Pokémon from the Sinnoh region Dex and then talk to Professor Rowan at Sandgem Town.

All Pokémon starter locations in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

The vast majority of starters can only be found in the Grand Underground wandering around in Pokémon Hideways or biomes that mesh well with their typing. It can take a while for them to spawn in the locations they show up, so if you don't see them, leave the Hideaway and then reenter until you do. We've included Eevee since it was a starter in Let's Go, Eevee!

Pokémon Location
Bulbasaur Grassland Cave, Riverbank Cave, Still-Water Cavern, Sunlit Cavern.
Charmander Volcanic Cave, Typhlo Cavern, and Sandsear Cave.
Squirtle Fountainspring Cave, Riverbank Cave, and Still-Water Cavern.
Pikachu Trophy Garden on Route 212.
Eevee From Bebe at Hearthome City and Trophy Garden on Route 212.
Chikorita Grassland Cave, Riverbank Cave, Still-Water Cavern, Sunlit Cavern.
Cyndaquil Volcanic Cave, Typhlo Cavern, and Sandsear Cave.
Totodile Fountainspring Cave, Riverbank Cave, and Still-Water Cavern.
Treecko Grassland Cave, Riverbank Cave, Still-Water Cavern, Sunlit Cavern.
Torchic Volcanic Cave, Typhlo Cavern, and Sandsear Cave.
Mudkip Fountainspring Cave, Riverbank Cave, and Still-Water Cavern.
Turtwig Grassland Cave, Riverbank Cave, Still-Water Cavern, Sunlit Cavern.
Chimchar Volcanic Cave, Typhlo Cavern, and Sandsear Cave.
Piplup Fountainspring Cave, Riverbank Cave, and Still-Water Cavern.

Starter collector

Now that you know where to find all of the starters, you can really work towards filling out that National Dex. Good luck catching them all, and remember to check the rooms they spawn in over and over as they might not show up for a while.

This speedrunner beat the new Pokémon games in less than 30 mins

Why, that's quicker than a Joltik can jump on a Jolteon!

What you need to know

  • Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are remakes of the generation four titles on the Nintendo DS.
  • Speedrunning is the act of finishing a game as quickly as possible, via various methods.
  • A speedrunner just beat the latest Pokémon release in under 30 minutes.

If it's one thing about speedrunners, they're gonna try their hardest to break a game as quickly as possible, so they can beat that game as quickly as possible. It hasn't even been one month since the release of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl on the Nintendo Switch, yet these games have already been cracked by speedrunners.

User Werster on YouTube, part of the Pokémon speedrunning community, managed to finish the game in the Any% category (where any percentage of completion is acceptable, as long as the credits have rolled) in 29 minutes and 46 seconds. Pokémon games typically take 25 to 35 hours to complete on a casual playthrough, so this is massively under the typical time. Not many players can claim to have beaten a game that big in under 30 minutes, and speedrunners will most likely continue to work on beating this new record.

Of course, these kinds of playthroughs involve RNG manipulation, glitches, and other tricks that casual players are unlikely to use, so this isn't something just anyone could do without intimate knowledge on the inner workings of the game. Remember that if you do attempt these methods to exercise caution, as you may corrupt your save file.

Let's go, Sinnoh!

Elevate your Mac mini experience with one of the best monitors around

If you're looking for the best monitor to go with your shiny new Mac mini (2020) with the incredible M1 chip or an older Intel Mac mini, you've come to the right place. Your best bet is the LG 27UN850-W 27 Inch Ultrafine, thanks to ultra-high-definition imagery, MacBook charging capabilities, and affordable price. LG's monitor is perfect for most people, but there are other monitors you can also consider, depending on your situation or budget. Here is our guide to the best monitors for Mac mini.

Best overall: LG Ultrafine UHD Display Monitor - 27-inch

Here's a workhorse 27-inch 4K monitor that works perfectly with the Mac mini. Though it doesn't have the Apple design aesthetic, the good stuff is all on the inside. The LG27UN850-W fits right into the pocket of reasonably priced and excellent quality if you don't mind the boxy two-tone look and large stand.

As for the price, you can get four of the LG27WN850-W's for the cost of just one LG UltraFine 5K Display. The UltraFine 4K is also great for MacBooks with its USB-C charging capabilities, so you only need one cable to manage. Other highlights include two USB-A 3.0 ports, two HDMI, and a single DisplayPort.

Pros:

  • Two USB-A ports
  • 4K image quality
  • Supports 60W charging for laptops
  • Easy to set up

Cons:

  • No camera or mic
  • Only one USB-C port

Best overall

LG 27UN850-W Ultrafine UHD (3840 x 2160) IPS Display

4K and versatility

LG's 27-inch UltraFine monitor offers crisp 4K resolution and convenient MacBook charging capabilities at an affordable price. Hook up two for a beautiful, bright, and convenient workflow for your Mac.

Best image: Apple Pro XDR Display - 32-inch

Apple's Pro Display XDR is the ultimate monitor for the latest M1 Apple Silicon Mac mini (2020) with ultra-high-definition 6K resolution. This massive 32-inch monitor has it all: P3 color, HDR, a contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, True Tone, Night Shift support, and it can reach up to a whopping 1,600 nits of peak brightness.

The Pro Display XDR has a single Thunderbolt 3 port that offers the best image possible with the Mac mini, as well as three USB-C ports that add additional flexibility to your desktop. In addition, the unique articulating stand (sold separately) makes adjustments a breeze, and a Nano-texture glass option reduces glare down to a minimum.

Pros:

  • Up to 6K resolution
  • 32-inch display
  • Nano-texture option
  • Thunderbolt 3 and 3 USB-C ports

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • No legacy ports
  • Doesn't include a stand or mount

Best image

Apple 32-inch Pro Display XDR with Retina 6K Display - Standard Glass

The absolute best image quality

Apple's PRO Display XDR offers pristine image quality at 6K with a peak brightness of 1,600 nits. If you need the absolute best, then the Pro Display XDR is the one for you.

Best 5K: LG 27MD5KL-B UltraFine 5K IPS Display - 27-inch

This LG monitor supports USB-C and Thunderbolt. The Thunderbolt 3 gives the Mac mini the best image quality possible, and the three USB-C ports offer 5Gbps downstream. It's 27 inches big, about the size of Apple's larger iMac, and has a similar P3 wide color gamut with 500 nits brightness. For full 5K resolution on a larger display, the UltraFine 5K is your perfect choice.

Its biggest downfall is that it doesn't quite have that Apple aesthetic. LG has designed an attractive Edge-Arcline base for some of its monitors, which looks better with Apple products. The UltraFine 5K, unfortunately, still has that dated, boxy black base and thick bezels.

Pros:

  • Up to 5K resolution
  • Designed for Apple
  • Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C
  • Built-in speakers, camera, and mic

Cons:

  • No Apple aesthetic
  • No legacy ports

Best 5K

Best ultrawide: LG 34BK95U-W UltraFine LED UltraWide Monitor - 34-inch

Though we continued to be impressed with LG's UltraFine 5K, it's the LG 34WK95U-W that won our hearts with its massive ultrawide display. This 34-inch 5K HDR monitor has a resolution of 5120x2160 and sports a Thunderbolt 3 port, an HDMI port, a DisplayPort port, and a couple of USB-A ports.

The ultra-wide screen aspect ratio is excellent for multi-taskers and content creators, with ample room for plenty of windows and lengthy timelines. The extra real estate makes it more versatile than LG's UltraFine 4K and 5K models, and the thinner bezels give it a modern look that matches the Mac mini perfectly.

Pros:

  • Pro-quality technology
  • Nano ISP color 5K display
  • USB hub
  • Versatile input options

Cons:

  • No built-in camera or microphone
  • Poor built-in speaker quality
