The Apple Watch has had quite an impact, and it's literally life changing

The Apple Watch is literally life-changing.

When the first Apple Watch launched back in 2015, it was seen more as a miniature iPhone on your wrist with some activity tracking capabilities. Basically, it took a new approach to fitness trackers by combining computing power into the form factor of a watch — the first real wearable that changed everything.

As time passed, the best Apple Watch has evolved into something much more than a little smartwatch that tracks workouts and notifies you throughout the day. With a consistent upgrade cycle that adds a new health-focused feature almost every year (ECG and Fall Detection in Series 4 and Blood Oxygen monitoring in Series 6), the Apple Watch has become one of Apple's most important devices yet when it comes to helping us track our own health and well-being.

Nothing's been more motivational than the Activity Rings

Like a lot of other Apple products, the Apple Watch was certainly not the first fitness tracker in the market. The space was rife with options from Fitbit, Garmin, Withings, and many smaller brands. Most of these trackers allowed users to set a daily goal for steps or calories and could help log workout sessions. But trying to hit 10,000 steps a day is a pretty boring goal, and there was no real "fun" way to motivate us to be more active.

Then came Apple Watch with the Activity Rings.

The Activity Rings are three rings on the Apple Watch that help encourage users to close each and every day: Move, Exercise, and Stand. The Move goal has been adjustable for each individual since the beginning, but Exercise and Stand were set to a strict 30 minutes and 12 hours a day, at least until recently with watchOS 7.

While the concept is relatively simple, the thought of "closing your rings" on a daily basis helped motivate a ton of people to get up and get moving towards a more active lifestyle. After all, closing the rings and watching a celebratory animation is just so much more satisfying than what previous fitness trackers have offered. And seeing a streak of a whole week, or even a month, of completed rings? It just encourages you to keep going.

And while you could always log workouts with the Apple Watch, Apple has continued to add a more diverse range of workout options that can be tracked. So no matter how you choose to exercise, there's a workout option for you to help track it and close your rings.

There's more to Apple Watch than just "Closing Your Rings"

Ever since the Apple Watch debuted, Apple has continued to improve it, turning it into something more than just a smartwatch. In fact, the Apple Watch is one of Apple's most important devices because of its core focus on health and well-being.

With the Apple Watch Series 4, Apple added ECG and Fall Detection. The ECG allows users to take an electrocardiogram right from the wrist, which captures and records heart rhythm data that can be used to detect issues like rapid or skipped heartbeats. Usually, signs of irregular heartbeats can point to atrial fibrillation (AFib). While the ECG app can't detect a heart attack, blood clots, a stroke, and other heart-related issues, the data from an irregular ECG reading can help catch a problem early, before it gets serious.

Fall Detection is also a big health feature. Thanks to the accelerometer and gyroscope in the Apple Watch, they detect your everyday activity, including sensing a falling motion. If you have a hard fall, the Apple Watch gives you a hard tap, sounds an alarm, and displays an alert. If you don't answer within 60 seconds, another countdown of 30 seconds appears, which is the time before emergency services are automatically contacted. If you don't need help, you can just tap the Stop button. Once the call is made, your emergency contacts will get a message, and location information gets shared.

Even with just ECG and Fall Detection, a lot of lives have been saved. For example, one man's Apple Watch kept alerting him to an abnormally low heart rate, which eventually led to his doctor diagnosing him with ventricular bigeminy. He needed to get heart surgery to fix the issue, but who knows if he would have ever known about this if it weren't for the Apple Watch ECG feature. Fall Detection saved the life of a mother-of-three who had a seizure while at home alone. Since she was wearing her Apple Watch, her husband and emergency services were made aware of the situation.

The Blood Oxygen monitoring is new and only available on the Apple Watch Series 6, but it's also a potentially life-saving feature like ECG and Fall Detection, despite not having FDA approval as a medical-grade device yet. With the Blood Oxygen app, users can measure the amount of oxygen in the blood, which should be between 95-100% to be considered healthy. When levels are below 95%, it is called hypoxemia, and this could be a concern. COVID-19 can affect blood oxygen levels and make them dangerously low, so even if it's not actually classified as a medical device quite yet, it still proves to be invaluable. Plus, there's a new heart failure study from the University Health Network that utilizes the Apple Watch Series 6 Blood Oxygen app — that counts for something, I would say.

And the rumor mills of the Apple Watch Series 7 are already churning. Of course, it remains to be seen whether or not Apple will actually follow through on these reports and add blood sugar monitoring to the Apple Watch Series 7, but it would be one feature that I would absolutely need.

The Apple Watch literally saves lives

When Apple Watch first came out, I was honestly kind of skeptical. I wasn't sure that I needed it — I already had a fitness tracker at the time, and I wasn't too concerned about my health back then. But I grew older, got tired of just measuring activity by daily steps, and began to experience some minor health issues.

I didn't get the first Apple Watch on launch day, but I eventually picked up the Series 0 (as it's now called). I remember at some point, the back of the original Watch popped off, and I had to send it in for repairs. I didn't want to be without an Apple Watch for a week (I became obsessed with closing my rings and keeping streaks going), so I bought a new Series 1 on the spot at the Apple Store. Once I got the repaired Series 0 back, I ended up giving it to my then-boyfriend (now husband) since I didn't need two.

The Apple Watch has become an incredibly important smart device in my life, and I'm glad I gave it a chance. After my Series 1, I picked up a Series 3 when it was on sale and then upgraded to a Series 5, which I'm still using to this day.

I did take a tumble a few weeks ago while walking our dog, and I can confirm that the Fall Detection feature works as intended. I also regularly take ECG measurements to make sure that my heartbeat rhythm is fine. I've been more active than before just to keep my 730+ day Move Streak going and attempting to knock out all monthly challenges and hit my next milestone of 1500 Move Goals.

The Apple Watch has become one of the tech devices that I just can't live without. Though it hasn't prevented me from death just yet, it has saved the lives of plenty of others.

Rare AirPods Pro sale saves you close to $60 today only

Today's AirPods Pro deal at Woot is offering one of their best prices in history. While supplies last, you can score Apple's popular noise-cancelling true wireless earbuds on sale for only $189.99, saving you $59 off their regular cost of $249. This deal brings these earbuds just $20 above the record low price we saw them reach for a short time during Black Friday last year, though even seeing them reach this price is extremely rare.

The AirPods Pro feature active noise cancellation to block out any ambient and background sounds around you so you can focus on your music, calls, or whatever's playing in your ears at the time. They also feature a transparency mode which allows you to filter back in all those sounds in case you do need to hear what's around you for a moment.

These are in-ear earbuds as opposed to the standard AirPods design. You'll receive three sizes of soft, silicone tips to help adjust the earbuds for a better fit. There's also a notable feature which uses adaptive EQ to tune your music to the shape of your ear automatically, providing customized sound for each user and ensuring you have the right fit.

Another major upgrade that the AirPods Pro have over the standard AirPods is improved water-resistance and sweat-resistance, making them a much better option to wear to the gym or out for a run — even in the rain. We even ran a 5K with the AirPods Pro to see how they'd hold up and they did great.

The AirPods Pro are easy to setup with all Apple devices, though they can be used with many non-Apple devices using Bluetooth as well. Apple device owners will likely have the best experience with them though, with easy pairing and device switching, hands-free access to Siri by saying "Hey Siri", touch controls, and more. The case that the AirPods Pro earbuds come in is also capable of charging wirelessly and can keep the earbuds powered up on-the-go for more than 24 hours

Amazon offers free shipping on orders totaling $25 or more, though you could receive your order even faster with an Amazon Prime membership. If you've never been a member before, you can start a free 30-day trial to score two-day shipping with no order minimum, along with access to the rest of Prime's perks such as the Prime Video streaming service, exclusive members-only discounts, and more.

All current Raid Bosses in Pokémon Go March 2021

Here's every Pokémon you can challenge in Pokémon Go Raids right now.

While you can catch plenty of Pokémon in the wild and hatch plenty of Pokémon in Eggs in Pokémon Go, Raid Battles are where you get some of the best and most powerful Pokémon in the game. While some of the Raid bosses are common and weak, Raids are also one of few ways to encounter Legendary Pokémon, Mega Pokémon, and certain rare species.

Which Pokémon, you ask? Well, the line-up changes pretty often. Each new event brings new and different Raid Bosses, and Niantic frequently changes them up just for fun. Lucky for you, we've got the whole list right here, and be sure to chek out our best Pokémon Go accessories so you're fully equipped on your Pokémon Journey!

  • Note: Any Pokémon with the potential to be Shiny is indicated by an asterisk.

Mega Raids in Pokémon Go

On August 27, 2020, Niantic introduced Mega Evolution and with it Mega Raids. Mega Raids are a class unto themselves, providing some of the most challenging battles yet. Mega Pokémon get a massive stat boost, and in some cases new typing as well. There are currently three Mega Raids available:

After completing any of these Mega Raids, you will be rewarded with the chance to catch the normal version of that Pokémon, as well as a bunch of Mega Energy - the species specific currency used to Mega Evolve your own Pokémon. The amount of Mega Energy you win is based on how quickly you can complete the Mega Raid so you want to invite as many people as possible to these Raids. Additionally, Mega Raids can give you Shiny Pokémon, unlike encountering these evolved Pokémon normally.

Like other Raids, Mega Raids also rotate out. Currently, the following Mega Raids cannot be battled right now:

Five Star Raids in Pokémon Go

The Five Star tier is typically reserved for Legendary Pokémon and usually the most sought after of public Raids. They're more difficult to beat than lower star ratings, but if you have enough players to do it, the rewards at this level are the best. To kick off the Seasons of Legends, we'll be getting the Forces of Nature Trio, as well as the Pokémon Go debut of their Therian formes. Expect to see lots of Legendary Raids over the next three months.

The current Legendary Raid boss is Incarnate forme Landorus*. Incarnate forme Tornadus* will take his place on March 6, Incarnate forme Thundurus* on March 11, Therian forme Thundurus on March 16, Therian forme Tornadus on March 30. Although Therian forme Landorus has yet to be announced, we expect it will likely follow Therian forme Tornadus in April.

Three Star Raids in Pokémon Go

Three Star Raids are fairly easy to take down, and many high-level players can do them with just one or two buddies. Still, they're worth a decent chunk of XP and other rewards. The current line up of Three Star Raid Bosses include:

  • Gligar* (1+ Trainers)
  • Donphan (2+ Trainers)
  • Whiscash (1 Trainer)
  • Glalie (2 Trainers)
  • Torterra (2 Trainers)

One Star Raids in Pokémon Go

Just about any player able to Raid can solo a One Star. These are all super easy and, unless this is one of your very first Raids, you'll spend more time waiting on the counter for the battle to start than you'll actually spend in the battle itself. However, if you need to complete a lot of Raids fast, these are the ones you want to aim for. Plus, they provide the easiest way to get some of the rarer first stage Pokémon.

  • Sneasal*
  • Swinub*
  • Drilbur
  • Ducklett
  • Espurr

Raid Invitations and Remote Raids in Pokémon Go

As the global pandemic slowed Pokémon Go play and Raids in particular during the early part of 2020, Niantic began to implement new features to make Raids more accessible. Now Trainers can purchase Remote Raid Passes, which allow them to take part in Raids that aren't within range for a normal Raid Pass. These Remote Raid Passes will let you join in any Raid you can see on the screen. Additionally, Remote Raid Passes allow you to join into any Raid a Friend invites you to. Raid Invitations were added shortly after Remote Raid Passes, allowing Trainers to invite up to five of their Friends to join in a Raid from anywhere in the world.

EX Raids in Pokémon Go

An Exclusive or EX Raid is a special sort of Raid you can only participate in by invitation. Invitations are given to players who battle at EX eligible Gyms during a time of high traffic with some small bit of luck on top. Otherwise, invitations can be shared between Ultra and Best Friends. If you have a high-level friend who gets one, they can invite you to the EX Raid as well. The last EX Raid Boss was Regigigas, the leader of the Regi Titans Trio; however, Niantic has currently suspended EX Raids in the interests of public health concerns.

No more Four and Two Star Raids in Pokémon Go

Prior to Mega Raids being released, Pokémon Go had two other Raid types: Four Star Raids and Two Star Raids. Four Star Raids were combined with Three Star Raids, while Two Star Raids were combined with One Star Raids. The difficulty remained at Three and One Star levels, while increasing the rewards, making all of these battles more accessible.

How to beat Tornadus the Cyclone Pokémon in Pokémon Go

Incarnate forme Tornadus will return to Legendary Raids on March 6, 2021.

Starting Saturday, March 6, 2021, Tornadus is back in Pokémon Go as part of the Season of Legends. A lot has changed since we last faced off against the Cyclone Pokémon, including the introduction of Mega Evolution, as well as many new Shadow Pokémon, , but we here at iMore have everything you need to know to beat Tornadus. And be sure to check out our best Pokémon Go accessories so you can be fully equipped for the battle!

Who is Tornadus and what are the Forces of Nature?

Introduced in the Gen V games Pokémon Black and Pokémon White, the Forces of Nature are a Legendary Trio. Fans have also called them the Legendary Genies, the Kami Trio, and the Cloud Trio. They include Tornadus: the Cyclone Pokémon, Thundurus: the Bolt Strike Pokémon, and Landorus: the Abundance Pokémon. Landorus, the strongest of the three, was said to have stopped the other two from wreaking destruction across the Unova Region. In more recent times, the Mythical Pokémon, Meloetta was able to calm all three of the Forces of Nature to save the Unova Region from their destructive powers.

The Forces of Nature are also some of the select few Pokémon with multiple Formes. Normally seen in their Incarnate forms where they resemble genies, they can also take on a Therian forme where they resemble a bird, a dragon, and a large cat. The Therian formes of the Forces of Nature will make their Pokémon Go debut in just a couple weeks. Guides for the other Forces of Nature and the Therian formes can be found here:

What are the best counters for Tornadus in Pokémon Go?

As a pure Flying type, Tornadus takes double damage from Rock, Electric, and Flying type attacks. It's capable of dealing Flying, Dark, Grass and Normal type damage.

Zekrom

The Legendary mascot of Pokémon White, Zekrom is the best non-Shadow counter for Tornadus. As a Dragon and Electric type, it has no weaknesses the Cyclone Pokémon can exploit and takes reduced damage from Flying and Grass type moves. Unfortunately, Zekrom's only run in Raids was during a global pandemic, so many players don't even have one, much less the candy to power it up. Still, if you have it, you'll want it to know Charge Beam and Wild Charge for this Raid.

Rampardos

A fossil Pokémon originally discovered in the Sinnoh region, Rampardos is one of the best Rock types in Pokémon Go. It's also super accessible, having only one previous stage, Cranidos which has been commonly found in Eggs. Rampardos takes half damage from Flying and Normal type attacks, but double from Grass. If you're bringing Rampardos to this Raid, you'll want it to know Smack Down and Rock Slide.

Mega Ampharos

If you're able to safely coordinate with your fellow Raiders, Mega Ampharos will be an invaluable part of an Electric based party. As an Electric and Dragon type, it has the same resistances as Zekrom, but also boosts the other Electric type Pokémon on the field. Even if you can't coordinate with the other Trainers, Mega Ampharos will still perform very well in this Raid. You'll want Volt Switch for its fast move and Zap Cannon for its charged attack.

Mega Abomasnow

While an Electric based offensive is ideal, Mega Abomasnow is a great lead for an Ice based party. As a Grass and Ice type, it resists Tornadus' Grass type attack, but takes double damage from Flying, so it won't last as long as Mega Ampharos. However, it will boost other Ice type counters, making it a solid choice if you either don't have Mega Ampharos Energy, or your fellow Raiders have better Ice type counters. Powder Snow and Weather Ball is the moveset you'll want your Mega Abomasnow to know for this Raid.

Magnezone

The final evolution of Gen I's Magnemite, Magnezone performs very well in this Raid and is readily accessible. It'ss resistant to Flying, Grass, and Normal type attacks, meaning only Tornadus' Dark type attacks will do full damage. In this Raid, you'll want Spark and Wild Charge for your Magenzone's moveset.

Electivire

Another readily available Sinnoh Evolution of a Gen I Pokémon, Electivire does great in this Raid. As a pure Electric type, it has no weaknesses that Tornadus can exploit and resists Flying type attacks. It's also readily available, not only because of Gen I Electabuzz and its baby stage, Elekid, but also because it was featured in a Community Day. Thunder Shock and Wild Charge are the moves you'll want your Electivire to know.

Rhyperior

Rhyperior is, yet another Sinnoh Stone evolution of a Gen I Pokémon recommended for this Raid. It has great stats and a great movepool, but like so many other counters for Tornadus, it is weak to Grass type. With a resistance to Flying and Normal type moves, it will still perform very well. It's also had the Community Day treatment, so you probably have a few already. You'll want your Rhyperior to know Smack Down and the Community Day exclusive move, Rock Wrecker for this Raid. However, if you don't have Rock Wrecker or the Elite TM to spare, Stone Edge will also work.

Raikou

One of the Legendary beasts of Johto, Raikou performs great against Tornadus. It's been available in Raids, Research Breakthrough Rewards, and even as a Legendary Shadow Pokémon in Giovanni's lineup, so most players have at least a couple already powered up. As a pure Electric type, it resists Flying and has no relevant weaknesses. You'll want your Raikou to know the fast move, Volt Switch and the charged move, Wild Charge.

Zapdos

One of the Legendary birds of Kanto, Zapdos works well against the Cyclone Pokémon. As an Electric and Flying type, it takes half damage from Flying and Grass type attacks, while having no weaknesses Tornadus can take advantage of. It's also been available many times over in Raids, events, as a Research Breakthrough Reward, and even as a Legendary Shadow Pokémon, so there's no good reason not to have at least one or two powered up already. You'll want Thunder Shock and Thunderbolt for your Zapdos' moveset.

Terrakion

One of the Legendary Swords of Justice, Terrakion is a great counter for Tornadus, especially if you cannot bring in one of the Mega Evolved counters. As Rock and Fighting type, it resists Dark and Normal attacks, but takes double damage from Grass. In addition to three runs in Legendary Raids, Terrakion was also a Legendary Pokémon Go Battle League reward encounter, so there's a good chance you already have at least one powered up. Smack Down and Rock Slide are the moves you're looking for.

Back ups?

Although most players will be able to make a team of the best counters, if you're finding a gap in your team, there are plenty of back ups who work well in larger groups. Just make sure you're dodging and any of the following could be a decent back up:

  • Galarian Darmanitan with Ice Fang and Avalanche
  • Mamoswine with Powder Snow and Avalanche
  • Luxray with Spark and Wild Charge
  • Tyranitar with Smack Down and Stone Edge
  • Weavile with Ice Shard and Avalanche
  • Glaceon with Frost Breath and Avalanche
  • Alolan Golem with Rock Throw and Wild Charge
  • Mewtwo with Psycho Cut and Thunderbolt
  • Aerodactyl with Rock Throw and Rock Slide
  • Arcanine with Thunder Fang and Wild Charge
  • Magneton with Spark and Discharge

Shadow Pokémon?

The rebalance of Shadow Pokémon rescued from Team GO Rocket make them excellent glass cannons. Not only are their stats boosted, but during special events or with Elite TMs, it's possible to change their moves. If you happen to have any of the following Pokémon with the right moveset, they will work very well in this Raid:

  • Shadow Raikou with Thunder Shock and Wild Charge
  • Shadow Zapdos with Thunder Shock and Thunderbolt
  • Shadow Magnezone with Spark and Wild Charge
  • Shadow Mamoswine with Powder Snow and Avalanche
  • Shadow Tyranitar with Smack Down and Stone Edge
  • Shadow Electivire with Thunder Shock and Wild Charge
  • Shadow Mewtwo with Psycho Cut and Thunderbolt
  • Shadow Weavile with Ice Shard and Avalanche
  • Shadow Aerodactyl with Rock Throw and Rock Slide
  • Shadow Arcanine with Thunder Fang and Wild Charge
  • Shadow Magneton with Spark and Discharge

Note: Shadow Raikou, Shadow Zapdos, and Shadow Magnezone outperform every other Pokémon in the best counters list. Shadow Mamoswine, Shadow Tyranitar, Shadow Electivire, and Shadow Mewtwo also perform on par with the other best counters. If you are able to safely coordinate the use of Mega Ampharos or Mega Abomasnow, they will boost other Electric or Ice types respectively, making them perform event better.

How many players does it take to beat Tornadus in Pokémon Go?

While it's possible for just two high level players with the best conditions to beat Tornadus, if you're lower level or lacking in the best counters, it may take four or more.

Weather conditions that can impact this Raid include:

  • Wind will boost Tornadus' Flying type attacks.
  • Sunny/Clear Weather will boost his Grass type attack.
  • Partly Cloudy will boost his Normal type attack, as well as your Rock type counters.
  • Fog will boost Tornadus' Dark type attacks.
  • Rain will boost your Electric type counters.
  • Snow will boost your Ice type counters.
