ACNH: Turn your island into a Mario course with Mushroom Kingdom items

Mario items and outfits are now in Animal Crossing!

New Horizons continues to be one of the best Nintendo Switch games because new updates and experiences keep getting added to it. The recent Animal Crossing Mario update is one of the most exciting ones so far since it allows us to obtain Mushroom Kingdom outfits and items. After you've collected them, you can turn your island into a Mario level. Want to know what you can get? Let's dive in.

There are also new Animal Crossing items for Pi Day, Shamrock Day, and Doll's Festival. Check it out if you want to learn more.

Animal Crossing Mario items:

How to buy Mario items in Animal Crossing

New Mario items and clothing are available starting March 1, 2021 after players download the Animal Crossing: New Horizons 1.9 update. To purchase these 33 Mario items, you'll need to go to the promotional tab of Nook Shopping and then spend Bells to acquire everything.

Remember that you can only purchase five items a day and you'll need to wait until the next day to get your orders in the mail. That means it will take a minimum of seven days to purchase all of them.

It will cost you 75,650 Bells to purchase one of each of the 33 Mario items. But you'll probably want to purchase more than one of a few things like the Coins and Pipes.

Mario items

Here are all of the sweet Mushroom Kingdom items players can purchase during the Mario event. Many items react when touched. For instance, the Super Star spins faster and the Thwomp comes crashing down. The most exciting thing is that by buying two Pipes and then putting them in different areas of your island, players can warp directly between the two points. You can even warp directly into houses. If there are more than two pipes on your island, you'll randomly come out of one of them.

Name Bells What it does
1-Up Mushroom 2,000 Bells Makes a power-up sound when you interact with it.
Block 1,000 Bells Interacting with it makes the unbreakable block noise.
? Block 1,350 Bells When you interact with it a Coin pops out of it.
Coin 350 Bells When you run over them they disappear, but spawn a few seconds later.
Block Flooring 3,000 Bells Use it to decorate your home.
Fire Flower 1,500 Bells Makes power-up sounds when you interact with it.
Floating Block 1,000 Bells It makes an unbreakable block sound when you interact with it
Goal Post 3,500 Bells Interacting with it changes the flag from Bowser to Mario or Mario to Bowser.
Lakitu's Cloud Rug 1,500 Bells Use it to decorate your home.
Large Mushroom Platform 3,000 Bells Decorate indoors or outdoors with it. You can place coins and items on it.
Mushroom Mural 3,000 Bells Given to you in the mail when you download the Mario update. Use it to decorate your home.
Pipe 5,000 Bells Can be placed indoors and outdoors allowing you to warp from one pipe to another. If there are multiple pipes, your destination will be chosen at random.
Shell 700 Bells Spins when you interact with it. Comes in red or green.
Small Mushroom Platform 1,000 Bells Decorate indoors or outdoors with it.
Super Mushroom 1,350 Bells Makes power-up sounds when you interact with it.
Super Star 2,000 Bells Spins faster when you interact with it.
Thwomp 3,000 Bells Comes crashing down. You cannot actually walk underneath it, though.
Yoshi's Egg Rug 1,500 Bells Decorate your home floor with it.

Mario Clothes

By acquiring a number of different clothing items, players can dress up as Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Peach. I see Waluigi has been snubbed again.

Clothing Cost Description
Mario Hat 1,500 Bells The iconic red hat worn by the big man himself.
Mario 'Stache 1,200 Bells The bumpy mustache that's accompanied Mario on his adventures.
Mario Outfit 2,400 Bells The classic overalls and red shirt that serves as Mario's outfit of choice.
Mario Shoes 1,400 Bells The brown shoes Mario wears everywhere. Notice that they are lighter in color than Luigi's shoes.
Luigi Hat 1,500 Bells Luigi's iconic green hat.
Luigi 'Stache 1,200 Bells The parted lip-piece that completes every Luigi cosplay.
Luigi Outfit 2,400 Bells Overalls and a green shirt that make up Luigi's classic look.
Luigi Shoes 1,400 Bells Shoes that Luigi uses to stomp Goombas with. They're darker than Mario's shoes.
Wario Hat 1,500 Bells Bells The yellow hat worn by Mario's arch-rival.
Wario 'Stache 1,200 Bells The jagged growth that somewhat resembles a lightning bolt.
Wario Outfit 2,400 Bells A short-sleeved number with overalls perfect for a hard day of undermining plumbers.
Wario Shoes 2,400 Bells Elf-like green shoes to show off your mischievous nature.
Peach Crown 12,000 A golden circlet set with stones and designed for the ruler of Mushroom Kingdom.
Peach Dress 6,000 Bells A decadent gown fit for royalty.
Peach Shoes 2,400 Bells Snazzy red heels for any occasion.

Is Mario coming to Animal Crossing?

The big man has never come to a past Animal Crossing game. As such, I'm more inclined to think that we won't see the plumber or any other Mushroom Kingdom friends. But it's still fun being able to get cool Mario-themed clothes and items.

Past Animal Crossing Mario cameos

In City Folk, players eventually were able to add Mario clothing and decorations to their inventory. Some items reacted when touched, while others were completely stationary. I love how they took eight-bit items and created them in a 3D space.

  • ? Block
  • 1-Up Mushroom
  • Brick Block
  • Cannon
  • Coin
  • Fire Bar
  • Fire Flower
  • Flagpole
  • Green Pipe
  • Koopa Shell
  • Starman
  • Super Mushroom
  • Toad Hat
  • Mario Hat
  • Luigi Hat

Are Zelda items coming to Animal Crossing?

In addition to Mario items, players could also collect Zelda decorations and clothes in past Animal Crossing titles. Since Mario is making its way into New Horizons, I fully expect Zelda items to come into the Switch game as well. Here are some of those items from past games.

  • Heart
  • Heart Container
  • Hero of Time Scroll
  • Hylian Shield
  • Master Sword
  • Lon Lon Milk
  • Rupee
  • Termina's Moon
  • Hyrule Wall
  • Zelda Floor
  • Triforce
  • Gossip Stone
  • Fairy Bottle
  • Bomb
  • Cucco Ornament
  • Treasure Chest

Animal Crossing Mario update

I've been having so much fun creating a Mario course on my island. It will take some time to acquire everything since we can only order five items a day, but it's going to be worth it!

Are you excited about this update? Tell us about it in the comments below.

Apple and Epic will do battle, hopefully in court, starting May 3

What you need to know

  • Apple Vs Epic will kick off in-person on May 3 COVID-19 allowing.
  • Everything might need to be done via video if it isn't deemed safe to run it in-person.

It begins.

Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California has today said that the Epic Games Vs Apple trial will begin May 3 with the intent being that it will be an in-person event. However, everything may need to be done via Zoom if it isn't deemed safe to put everyone into a courtroom.

As Foss Patents reports, even if the case is heard in a courthouse the number of people allowed to be involved at any given time will be limited.

Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California said at the outset of today's Epic Games v. Apple case management conference that this is a very significant case, so the judiciary should give it the best it has to offer, which is an in-person trial. But under the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, it may be necessary to conduct the trial, in whole or in part, via Zoom. Even if it's fully in-person, the number of persons simultaneously present in the courtroom will be very limited.

Most interestingly, the judge is already playing hardball with anyone who could say that they can't attend for health reasons. Anyone who is a "COVID denier" will reportedly be given short shrift.

The judge won't take it lightly if someone who's a "COVID denier" on Facebook or goes on extensive travel for other purposes asks to be excused from showing up in person for the trial. She expects counsel for the parties to "investigate" the witnesses in that regard.

If all goes according to plan the courtroom will be set up to avoid any potential for contamination, although the use of plexiglass shields will allow witnesses to be present without the need to wear face masks. Whether it happens in-person or via Zoom, however, it looks like May 3 is set in stone at this point. We don't know how long the trial will run for due to the number of people giving evidence.

As a reminder, this whole sordid situation revolves around Apple's decision to remove Fortnite from the App Store after Epic bypassed its in-app purchase system last year. Epic and Apple have since been arguing amongst themselves about the App Store and the way it functions. Epic isn't happy about Apple's 30% cut.

Project Triangle Strategy: Every playable character (that we know so far)

War comes, who are your trusted allies?

Project Triangle Strategy (that's a working title) is an upcoming 2D RPG from Square Enix that's being developed for the Nintendo Switch. The world of Project Triangle Strategy is set on the continent of Norzelia, with three kingdoms fighting for limited resources of water, salt, and iron: Glenbrook, Hyzante, and Aesfrost. With a sprawling, epic story that'll see player decisions shape the outcome, it could end being one of the best Nintendo Switch games available.

Each kingdom has multiple royal houses and factions, meaning this game has a large cast, list of names and titles, so keeping track of the important playable characters can be a bit challenging, especially since some party members seem to be gated off based on the choices you make. As such, we've put together a Project Triangle Strategy character guide with every playable character in the game, at least that know of so far.

Serenoa Wolffort

Serenoa Wolffort is the main protagonist you play as in the game. He's the heir to the Wolffort lands and acting commander of all its forces. House Wolffort is one of the three great houses in the kingdom of Glenbrook. He uses a sword in combat.

Roland Glenbrook

The younger of two princes in line for the Glenbrook throne, Roland is a close friend of Serenoa. In battle, he uses a lance while riding a horse.

Frederica Aesfrost

One of the princesses of the kingdom of Aesfrost, Frederica is the fiance of Serenoa. She wields fire magic in combat.

Benedict Pascal

Steward of House Wolffort, Benedict Pascal serves as a source of wise counsel for Serenoa and his friends. In battle, he buffs his allies, magnifying their strengths and resistances while wielding a cane sword.

Hughette Bucklar

Kingsguard for House Glenbrook, Hughette Bucklar is fiercely loyal to Prince Roland, using her large hawk to glide across the battlefield while equipped with a bow.

Erador Ballentine

As the armsmaster for House Wolffort, Erador Ballentine serves Serenoa and his allies, drawing enemy attention in combat while tanking damage with heavy armor and a shield.

Geela Breisse

Geela Breisse is Frederica's tutor, wisely looking after her charge while using healing magic to keep her allies rejuvenated in battle.

Corentin Jenner

A Ministry Researcher working for House Wolffort, Corentin Jenner brings deadly ice magic that can freeze foes solid or block their advance, making him an invaluable tactical asset.

Anna Pascal

A spy in the employ of House Wolffort, Anna Pascal can sneak across a battlefield undetected while using her dagger to land critical backstabs.

Julio Lightman

One of three optional characters we've found so far, Julio Lightman is an advisor for House Glenbrook. He uses a scimitar in battle.

Medina Alliam

The second optional character we've found, Medina Alliam is a healer from the Holy State of Hyzante, using her physician's skills to heal allies on the battlefield.

Ezana Qlinka

The third optional character so far, Ezana Qlinka is a Shamaness, using the power of rain and water to shape the battlefield for exploitation.

Gather your party and venture forth

Project Triangle Strategy is currently set to release at some point in 2022. Until then, you can try out the demo that's available right now and will be used to gather player feedback for the developers. Our own editor Sara Gitkos wrote that the demo offered a lot of promise, meaning this has quite a bit of potential depending on how the rest of the game unfolds.

The popular Weather Line app has been acquired, will shut down April 2022

What you need to know

  • The people behind Weather Line have announced the app has been acquired.
  • Weather Line shuts down in April 2022.

No personal data has been sold as part of the deal, though.

The popular Weather Line app has been acquired, according to the people behind it. While nobody is saying who has picked the app up, the buyout has been in the works for "months."

While the app will be removed from the App Store immediately, everyone with the app already installed can continue to use it until April 2022. Existing users are having their paid-access extended through that period, too.

The acquisition means the app is going away. Today, we removed Weather Line from the App Store. For all existing Weather Line users, free and paid, the app will continue working for 13 months, until April 1, 2022.

As a thank you, we've extended all active SuperCharge subscriptions for free until the app shuts down. You do not need to take any actions to redeem this, and there are no circumstances where anyone will be billed again by Weather Line.

Importantly, it appears that no data was part of the sale. No personal data has been transferred to the outfit buying Weather Line – something that users will no doubt be particularly pleased to hear.

Rest assured that no user data, email addresses, payment information, or any other sensitive data was transferred to Weather Line's new owners. This data has not and will not be sold.

Weather Line has been one of my go-to weather apps for some time now and it will be a shame to see it go the way of the dodo. That being said, it's great to see indie developers rewarded for the work they've put in over the years.

You can find out all of the buyout details over on the Weather Line blog.
