The DNA Pokémon, Deoxys is coming back for two weeks of Legendary Raids. One of the oddest Legendary Pokémon out there, Deoxys has four different formes, but only its Defense forme Forme will be back this time. Who is Deoxys in Pokémon Go?

One of the most unusual Pokémon, Deoxys was formed by the mutation of an alien virus in space. It takes for different formes: Normal, Attack, Defense, and Speed. Each forme has a different shape and different stats, but they're all the same type and the same basic colors.

Where the formes really differe is their movesets:

• Normal Forme Deoxys can deal out Psychic, Electric, and Normal type damage.
• Attack Forme Deoxys can deal Psychic, Electric, Dark, and Poison type damage.
• Defense Forme Deoxys can deal Psychic, Electric, Fighting, and Rock type damage.
• Speed Forme Deoxys can deal Psychic, Electric, and Normal type damage.

This means you may have to tailor your counter teams a bit depending on the forme you're facing. Since we're only facing Deoxys's Defense forme right now, that's what we'll focus on, but in case you were wondering what its other three forms look like:

What are the best counters for Deoxys in Pokémon Go?

A pure Psychic type, Deoxys takes increased damage from Bug, Ghost, and Dark type attacks. Its Defense forme is capable of dealing Psychic, Fighting, Rock, and Electric type damage. As there are now Mega Evolved Pokémon for each of its type weaknesses, this is a Raid you're going to want to coordinate with your fellow trainers on.

Mega Gengar

Best of the best, Mega Gengar is a great choice for a Ghost based offensive in this Raid, assuming you have the Mega Energy to spare. As a Ghost and Poison type, it will take super effective damage from Deoxys's Psychic type attacks, but it resists Fighting type damage. If you are bringing a Mega Gengar to this Raid, you'll want it to know Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball and remember to coordinate with your fellow trainers if you can safely do so.

Mega Houndoom

If you don't have enough Mega Gengar Energy or you're better equipped for a Dark based offensive, Mega Houndoom is the best of the Dark type Mega Pokémon to bring agaisnt Deoxys. As a Dark and Fire type, you'll have to watch out for Deoxys's Fighting and Rock type attacks, but it will resists the Psychic type moves. Snarl and Foul Play are the ideal moves for Mega Houndoom here, and again, coordinate with the rest of your Raid party if you can.

Darkrai

The Mythical Gen IV Pokémon, Darkrai might look like a Ghost, but it's actually a Dark type, and despite being a Mythical Pokémon, it's seen widespread availability. It resists Deoxys's Psychic type attacks and for other Formes, it resists Dark type, but is weak to Fighting type. If you're bringing Darkrai to this Raid, you'll want it to know Snarl and Shadow Ball or Dark Pulse. Shadow Ball does slightly more damage even without the benefit of STAB.

Mega Gyarados

Although it doesn't perform quite as well as Mega Houndoom, Mega Gyarados is still a great choice to lead a Dark based offensive. As a Dark and Water type, it will take increased damage from Deoxys's Fighting and Electric type moves, but resists its Psychic type moves. Bite and Crunch are the best moveset for this Raid, and if you can coordinate with the rest of the Raid party, it will boost other Dark types on the field.

Giratina (Origin forme)

A Sinnoh region Legenday, Giratina is another great counter for Deoxys, but specifically its Origin Forme. Unfortunately, Giratina's Origin forme hasn't seen the widespread availabiility as its Altered forme, but they do use the same Candy. As a Ghost and Dragon type, it resists Electric and Normal type damage, and it has no weaknesses the DNA Pokémon can exploit. Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball are the moves you'll want your Giratina to know.

Chandelure

Originally encountered in the Unova region of Gen V, Chandelure performs very well against Deoxys. As a Ghost and Fire type, Chandelure takes super effective damage from Rock type attacks, but resists Fighting type. Its first stage, Litwick has been featured in several events, so most active players have at least one or two powered up already. Hex and Shadow Ball are the ideal moveset for this Raid.

Mega Beedrill

Last of the Mega counters, Mega Beedrill is the key to a Bug type Raiding party. This Bug and Poison type takes super effective damage from Psychic and Rock type attacks, so it won't last long in most of these Raids, but a resistance to Fighting type damage and the Mega boost it provides to other Bug types make it a viable choice if you have the potions and revives on hand to keep it going. If you're bringing Mega Beedrill to this fight, you'll want it to know Bug Bite and X-Scissor.

Gengar

Gen I's Gengar is a solid choice for this Raid, especially when paired up with a Mega Gengar. It's been available for so long and in so many ways that there's just no excuse not to have at least a couple in your roster. On top of that, with the introduction of Trade Evolution, you can evolve Haunter into Gengar without spending any Candy, leaving you even more Candy for powering up this tanky Ghost. However, like its Mega Evolved version, Gengar is also weak to Psychic attacks, so make sure you have plenty of Revives and Potions on hand. For the moves, Lick and Shadow Ball work best, but if you don't have the Legacy Move or the Elite TM to spare, Shadow Claw works almost as well.

Hydreigon

The final evolution of Deino, Hydreigon is a pseudo-Legendary from the Unova region. It was featured during Dragon Week, as well as other events, in Eggs, and as a Pokémon Go Battle League reward encounter, so most active players have at least one or two already powered up. As a Dark and Dragon type, Deoxys's Electric and Psychic type attacks will do reduced damage, but Fighting type attacks will do super effective damage. Bite and Dark Pulse is the moveset you're looking for in this Raid.

Yveltal

The Legendary mascot of Pokémon Y, Yveltal is the last of the top counters, but certainly no pushover. As a Dark and Flying type, it will take increased damage if the Deoxys you're facing has the Electric or Rock type attacks, but it resists Psychic type damage and can certainly take a hit. Although the Destruction Pokémon has only had one run in Raids so far, it was fairly recent, so most active players should have at least one or two. Snarl and Dark Pulse are the moves you'll want Yveltal to know for this Raid.

Back ups?

Although most players will be able to make a team of the best counters, if you're finding a gap in your team, there are plenty of back ups who work well in larger groups. Just make sure you're dodging and any of the following could be a decent back up:

• Weavile with Snarl and Foul Play
• Genesect with Fury Cutter and X-Scissor
• Mewtwo with Psycho Cut and Shadow Ball
• Tyranitar with Bite and Crunch
• Bisharp with Snarl and Dark Pulse
• Escalavier with Bug Bite and Mega Horn
• Honchkrow with Snarl and Dark Pulse
• Scizor with Fury Cutter and X-Scissor
• Deoxys (Attack forme) with Poison Jab and Dark Pulse
• Krookodile with Snarl and Crunch
• Houndoom with Snarl and Foul Play
• Absol with Snarl and Dark Pulse
• Banette with Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball
• Pinsir with Fury Cutter and X-Scissor

Shadow Pokémon?

The rebalance of Shadow Pokémon rescued from Team GO Rocket make them excellent glass cannons. Not only are their stats boosted, but during special events, it's possible to change their moves. If you happen to have any of the following Pokémon with the right moveset, they will work very well in this Raid:

• Shadow Mewtwo with Psycho Cut and Shadow Ball
• Shadow Weavile with Snarl and Foul Play
• Shadow Tyranitar with Bite and Crunch
• Shadow Banette with Shadow Claw and Shadow Ball
• Shadow Absol with Snarl and Dark Pulse
• Shadow Pinsir with Bug Bite and X-Scissor
• Shadow Honchkrow with Snarl and Dark Pulsse
• Shadow Mismagius with Hex and Shadow Ball
• Shadow Houndoom with Snarl and Foul Play
• Shadow Scizor with Fury Cutter and X-Scissor
• Shadow Shiftry with Snarl and Foul Play
• Shadow Raikou with Thunder Shock and Shadow Ball

Note: Shadow Mewtwo, Shadow Weavile, and Shadow Tyranitar outperform every non-Mega Pokémon in the best counters list.

How many players does it take to defeat Deoxys in Pokémon Go?

While other formes of Deoxys can be beat with three or even two top level players, the Defense forme has, as the name implies, much higher defense and so take a lot more damage to beat. You should aim to have at least four players when challenging this forme of the DNA Pokémon, and at least six if you're lower level or lacking the best counters.

Weather conditions that can impact this Raid include:

• Wind will boost Deoxys's Psychic type moves
• Partly Cloudy Weather will boost Deoxys's Rock type move
• Rain will boost Deoxys's Electric type move, as well as your Bug type counters
• Cloudy/Overcast Weather will boost Deoxys's Fighting type move
• Fog will boost your Dark and Ghost type counters

Review: Mario + Rabbids + strategy = a unlikely win

You've got your Rabbids in my Mario game!

It's hard not to be charmed by Mario + Rabbids. From the game's heartfelt reveal at E3 2017 that brought Creative Director Davide Soliani to tears, to the off the wall shenanigans of the Rabbids, Mario sharing the screen with the Raving Rabbids is the most chocolate and peanut butter pairing in gaming history. Wrap that in a challenging tactical strategy game, and you've got something completely original, and a showcase for both Nintendo and Ubisoft's creativity when they're aiming for the rafters.

With the stage set, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle released to critical and commercial acclaim, crafting an easy-to-understand turn-based tactics game that shares its DNA with XCOM, but comes complete with its own unique quirks. The Minion-like Rabbids, wonderfully animated and adorable, steal the show with their Looney Toons antics. It's also great fun, as long as you don't mind occasional difficulty spikes.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle: What's good

The reason why these two random flavors come together doesn't matter too much. All you really need to know is that the SupaMerge, created by a young girl we never see, has the ability to merge any two things. Of course, the Rabbids show up in a dimension-hopping washing machine, quickly get a hold of the technology, and find themselves running amok in the Mushroom Kingdom. A sentient robot Roomba named Beep-0 seeks out the mustached plumber for help, and so begins their journey. You know, the usual.

The purposely obnoxious Rabbids, originally associated with the Rayman franchise, might be annoying to some, but their cartoony hijinks play well off the relatively straight-faced Mario crew. The cutscenes, in particular, are brilliantly animated; in fact, it's one of the game's strongest elements. While a few gags fall flat, most of the slapstick comedy is fun and is sure to entertain younger audiences.

The presentation all around is really great. The game runs on a modified Snowdrop engine (the same engine that powered Ubisoft's Division games) so it runs smoothly, both in docked and handheld mode, though you may notice occasional glitches and some hitching. As one of the earliest titles in the Nintendo Switch's library, it does what it can with the limited hardware, and its colorful palette helps hide any major graphical blemishes. The music, on the other hand, pulls no punches. Composed by Grant Kirkhope of Rareware fame, the music of Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is fantastic from start to finish.

Never seen Mario like this

As far as gameplay goes, you would be forgiven if you thought that Mario + Rabbids was going to be easy. It's actually surprisingly challenging. You command a team of three characters as you duck for cover and do battle with enemy Rabbids, using some of the many weapons at your disposal, including different sniper rockets, shotguns, and sentries. You can also move around the battlefield, physically attack enemies, bounce off of allies, and use special powers to heal your party, inflict status ailments, or lure enemies out of cover. It never gets old watching Luigi dip out of cover to pop a slow-motion bullet into a Rabbid's side.

Special mention should be made to the excellent enemy variation and boss encounters. From a giant Rabbid Kong to familiar foes like Bowser Jr., each encounter was memorable and, occassionaly, pretty difficult. Some encounters took a couple of tries, and since there aren't any difficulty levels, you'll really have to experiment to find the best routes and best team ups to make it through the game's four worlds. And if you're looking for even more, there are some hellish challenges that can be unlocked.

In between fights, you explore the Mushroom Kingdom as you normally would in other Mario games, collecting coins and solving puzzles for new weapons and other treasures. In the Battle HQ, you can spend coins earned on new weapons and level up your characters in typical RPG fashion. It's just deep enough to give you a reason to replay missions so that you can max out your party's abilities.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle: Donkey Kong's turn

A brand new Donkey Kong chapter was added to the game just a few months after release, and it's definitely good enough to warrant its own section. Taking place shortly after the completion of the first world, Beep-0 and Rabbid Peach find themselves transported to Donkey Kong's neck of the woods. Here, they team up with the great ape, as well as Rabbid Cranky, to topple a super-powered Rabbid Kong.

The DLC pack is quite lengthy, clocking in at about 7-8 hours. However, the addition of Donkey Kong adds a real powerhouse to your arsenal. He can literally chuck enemies (and the cover they're hiding behind), and swing between areas on dandelion vines. His boomerang banana even enables him to hit up to three enemies at one time. Despite Donkey Kong being strong compared to other characters, the levels in this Donkey Kong DLC are just as challenging and animated as the normal adventure. I only wish there was more crossover with the main game, as they're separated from one another and only share Rabbid Peach.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle: A wolf in sheep's clothing

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle reshapes the Mushroom Kingdom in interesting ways, but as far as your party is concerned, you're fairly limited. You always have Mario on your team and at least one Rabbid, but I wish there was a little more freedom in that regard, and that there was more of a Mario roster to choose from. Playing as Donkey Kong was a treat because he was so different than the other four core party members, and I wish that the developers played more to character's differences instead of just giving them different weapons.

The multiplayer campaign can be fun, but it's limited to local co-op only. Players take control of two characters and run through multiplayer exclusive maps. It's not too bad, but it does feel like an afterthought that I hope they expand on in the upcoming sequel. They can even integrate it into the main campaign.

The difficulty spike can sometimes feel unfair and uneven.

While the strategy game's campaign is quite lengthy at around 20 hours, it does become quite difficult at times, making the game feel even longer. While there's no permadeath or any real stakes to losing, the difficulty spike can sometimes feel unfair and uneven. Fans of strategy games might welcome the challenge, but newcomers might end up burned, especially those who might pick this game up expecting a breezy romp like other Mario or Rabbid games.

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle: Should you play it?

If you're a fan of strategy games and your primary console is a Switch, look no further than Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. It's an unexpected collaboration crafted with love that has no business being as good as it is. Throw in the Donkey Kong Adventure, and you have a sizeable and satisfying strategy game. If you're interested in its sequel, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, now's the perfect time to jump into one of the best strategy games on the platform.

Mario meeting the Rabbids in a strategy game might be the combination no one asked for, but it works on almost every level. The colorful visuals, surprisingly deep gameplay, and a lengthy campaign, plus an excellent DLC expansion, make this game an easy recommendation. It's one of the best games on the Switch.

How to make an archived backup of your iPad

Before you get the beta, you'll want to make sure that your iPad is backed up. Downloading and installing the beta is a straightforward process, but it's not without risk. Since your iPad probably has all of your personal data, you should always — always! — make a backup, just in case. And yes, even if you do an automatic backup every night, you'll still want to make another one right before putting the beta on to make sure everything is up-to-date.

1. Connect your device to your Mac using the cable it came with.
2. Launch a Finder window.
3. Select your connected device under Locations in the sidebar of the Finder window.
4. Click Pair to pair the device to your Mac.
5. Tap Trust on the device to confirm that you want to pair it.
6. Enter your passcode on your device.
7. If you don't already have a backup on your Mac, click Back Up Now to make a backup.
8. Click Manage Backups after you've made a recent backup.
9. Right or Control click on your device backup.
10. Click Archive.
11. Click OK.

Archiving will prevent your current backup from being overwritten by an iPadOS 15 backup in the future, should you want to revert for any reason.

How to register your account for the iPadOS 15 public beta

If you've already joined an Apple public beta in the past, you shouldn't need to register again for iPadOS 15 — just sign in with the same Apple ID. If you've never joined a public beta before, you'll start by signing up with your Apple ID.

1. Go to beta.apple.com on the iPad you want to enroll in the beta.
2. Tap on Sign up to get started. (If you've already signed up for a previous public beta, tap on Sign in and skip to our "How to enroll your device" section below.)
3. Enter you Apple ID email address and password.
4. Tap Sign in.
5. Tap Accept to agree to the terms and conditions.

Once you're signed up and signed in, it's time to start downloading.

How to enroll your iPad in the iPadOS 15 public beta

Unlike regular iPadOS updates, where you just tap and start downloading, Apple is using configuration profiles to validate devices for the iPadOS 15 public beta. Installing it is easy peasy.

Note: If you've been on a previous iPadOS public beta, you may need to remove the previous beta profile before installing the iPadOS 15 version. You can do so by going to Settings > General > Profile, selecting the iPadOS Beta Software Profile, and pressing Delete Profile.

1. Go to beta.apple.com, if you're not there already.
2. Tap the iPadOS tab, if it's not highlighted already.
3. Tap on Download profile.
4. Tap Allow.
5. Tap on Close.
6. Open Settings.
7. Tap Profile Downloaded.
8. Tap Install in the upper-right corner.
9. Enter your passcode.
10. Tap Install.
11. Tap Install.
12. Tap Restart.

Once your iPad is done rebooting, it should begin to download iPadOS 15 automatically. From this point on, the process is the same as any other iPadOS update.

How to install the iPadOS 15 public beta

To install the iPadOS 15 beta, you'll need to visit Software Update on your iPad.

1. Launch Settings from your Home screen.
2. Tap General.
3. Tap Software Update.
4. Once the update appears, tap on Download and Install.
5. Enter your Passcode.
6. Tap Agree to the Terms and Conditions.
7. Tap Agree again to confirm.

Your iPad will now reboot to install iPadOS 15. There will be a couple of progress bars going across the screen. Sit tight, and let everything finish. Patience is a virtue!

How to get started with iPadOS 15 public beta

Once your iPad reboots, it'll be on iPadOS 15. There's a little bit of setting up that you'll need to go through, however. This is because the system has changed enough that it'll need your login credentials to complete the update.

1. Tap Continue.
2. Enter your Apple ID password. iCloud settings will update, so give it a minute.
3. Tap Get Started.

Once that's done, you'll be on the Home screen and ready to rock iPadOS 15. Have fun!

June 30, 2021: Apple releases watchOS 8 public beta 1 to testers

Apple has released watchOS 8 public beta 1 for members of the Beta Software Program. If you've prepared your Apple Watch for the public beta using the instructions below, you can head to Settings > General > Software Update on your Apple Watch to get started. If you've been waiting for this update to get started on watchOS testing, now's your time!

How to register your device for the watchOS 8 public beta

If you've already joined an Apple public beta in the past, you shouldn't need to register again for watchOS 8; simply sign in with the same Apple ID. If you've never joined a public beta before, you'll start by signing up with your Apple ID.

1. Go to beta.apple.com on the iPhone connected to the Apple Watch that you want to enroll in the beta.
2. Tap on Sign up to get started. (If you've already signed up for a previous public beta, tap on Sign in and skip to our "How to enroll your device" section below.)
3. Enter your Apple ID email address and password.
4. Tap Sign in.
5. Tap Accept to agree to the terms and conditions.

How to enroll your Apple Watch in the watchOS 8 public beta

1. Go to beta.apple.com on the iPhone paired to the Apple Watch that you want to enroll if you're not there already.
2. Tap the watchOS tab.
3. Tap Download profile.
4. Tap Allow.
5. Tap Allow on the prompt asking for permission to install a profile.
6. Tap on Install begin.
7. Enter your Passcode if prompted to do so.
8. Tap on Install to confirm.
9. Tap Install.
10. Tap on Restart to reboot your Apple Watch.

What is Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle?

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is a strategy game in the same vein as XCOM. You take control of two Mario characters and at least one Rabbid doppelganger, and you must utilize each character's unique set of skills to best enemy forces in some wacky tactical combat. Mario and company are equipped with guns that have different effects and a limited number of turns. Find cover and complete the objective without getting knocked out yourself. The objectives are:

• Defeat All: This is the most common type of mission, and it means you have to defeat all the enemies on the field to advance.
• Reach Area: Typically, these missions have an endless stream of enemy Rabbids that will keep attacking you until you reach a highlighted area of the map. Only one of your team members must make it to the designated area to win the battle.
• Defeat Boss: As you progress throughout the story, you will encounter difficult Rabbid enemies, like Rabbid Kong. Other Rabbids will often accompany these enemies; however, you'll only need to defeat the boss to clear the map.

Outside of battle, the game is broken up into worlds that have chapters, much like many Mario games that have come before. Between each battle, you'll be able to lead BEEP-0 and your squad through what's left of the wacky Mushroom Kingdom and collect coins, travel through pipes, use cannons to reach new platforms, find chests, and more.

What's the story?

Mario + Rabbids starts fairly unassuming at first. An invention called the SupaMerge, created by an unknown but intelligent young girl has the ability to merge any two things together; however, it's not working quite right. When the girl leaves her desk to take a break, the Rabbids appear in what appears to be a dimension-hopping washing machine and almost instantly begin to merge things.

Of course, this goes horribly wrong, and soon the SupaMerge is merging everything insight, and the dimension-traveling washing machine ends up in the Mushroom Kingdom.

From here, the sentient robot known as BEEP-0 finds Mario and asks him if he will help put the Mushroom Kingdom back together and stop the Rabbid that has the SupaMerge from destroying more worlds.

Who is playable?

When the Mushroom Kingdom is in peril, Mario and his friends rise to the occasion. Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Yoshi are all playable, as well as their Rabbid doppelgangers, Rabid Mario, Rabbid Luigi, Rabbid Peach, and Rabbid Yoshi. Each character has a different skill, damage output, weapon availability, and other stats, so don't be afraid to see what combo of three characters makes the best team!

Donkey Kong Adventure, Donkey Kong, and Rabbid Cranky are playable in the DLC episode, but only in the DLC.

What's so special about the music?

Davide Solani, the creative director, went out of his way to hire Grant Kirkhope to compose the music for the game. For those who don't know, Grant Kirkhope is a musician best known for his contributions to video games and the man responsible for the DK Rap. Grant Kirkhope worked on N64 classics like the Banjo Kazooie series, Donkey Kong 64, and Perfect Dark and has a portfolio that touches everything from Minecraft Dungeons to World of Warcraft.

Is there multiplayer?

Yes, and it all takes place in the Buddy Dome. There's no online multiplayer, but you can play co-op missions with a friend locally. In the coop campaign, each player takes control of two characters each, completing the objectives set before you. The more you play single-player mode, the more levels will be unlocked in the Buddydome. If you want to try it out, make sure you have an extra controller to spare.

Is there DLC?

Mario + Rabbids has a Season Pass available for $20. The Season Pass includes 5 co-op exclusive maps, 8 new hard challenges, and cosmetics for your weapons. But the real selling point is Donkey Kong Adventure, a whole separate chapter that sends BEEP-0 and Rabbid Peach to DK island where they meet Donkey Kong and Rabbid Cranky, and they must work together to stop Rabbid Kong. It's a lengthy DLC chapter, complete with new combat levels and a brand-new world to explore.

How much does it cost?

Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is available for $60 but is often discounted to as low as $10. There is also a Gold Edition available that includes the Season Pass DLC. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle is often heavily discounted, so watch the Nintendo eShop or online retailers for discounts.
