Ram Unveils Electric Pickup Truck with Gas-Powered Generator

Ram, a brand under Stellantis, is paving the way for a new era of electric trucks with the unveiling of the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger. This groundbreaking vehicle goes beyond the traditional definitions of trucks, aiming to redefine the concept of a truly electric truck, offering a new level of eco-conscious utility vehicles. The Ramcharger is distinctively categorized as a series hybrid, with no mechanical link between the generator assembly and the wheels, ensuring that all propulsion is purely electrical. This unique feature epitomizes the vehicle’s electric nature and sets it apart from other hybrid models.

A Unique Blend of Electric and Gas

At the core of the Ramcharger lies an exceptional powertrain. It comes equipped with a robust 92-kilowatt-hour battery pack, delivering an impressive 145 miles of all-electric range. Under the hood, there’s a 3.6-liter V6 engine, acting as a 130-kilowatt generator. This innovative combination allows the Ramcharger to achieve a remarkable targeted range of 690 miles. With 663 horsepower, 615-pound feet of torque, it can accelerate from 0 to 60 miles per hour in just 4.4 seconds, making it a top performer in the electric truck segment. Moreover, it boasts an impressive towing capacity of 14,000 pounds and a maximum payload of 2,625 pounds, ensuring robust performance credentials.

Charging Flexibility & Diversity

The Ramcharger offers a range of charging options to cater to the tech-savvy consumer. It supports easy plugging and charging, while the 400-volt DC fast charger can add 50 miles of electric range in just 10 minutes. Notably, the Ramcharger has bi-directional charging capability, allowing it to charge other electric vehicles and provide mobile power for homes, campsites, or tools. Additionally, an onboard power panel in the truck bed supplies up to 7.2 kW of power, offering a practical solution for various scenarios. Inside the Ramcharger, three strategically positioned switches, named Electric Plus, Eco, and E-save, provide users with the freedom to select their preferred charging mode. These modes cater to various driving preferences and scenarios, offering users a high degree of flexibility.

A Bridge to the Electric Future

As the 2025 Ram 1500 Rev, an all-electric truck from Ram, is still in development, the Ramcharger serves as a bridge technology, addressing common concerns such as range anxiety, charge time, and infrastructure. It plays a crucial role in introducing new and existing Ram customers to the realm of electrification. Stellantis with its ambitious Dare Forward 2030 plan, aims to achieve 100% battery electric vehicle sales in Europe and 50% in the United States by the end of the decade. Tim Kuniskis, Ram CEO, emphasized the Ramcharger as a “game changer” in the electric truck sector, underlining its role in driving transformative change in the automotive industry.

Redefining Perceptions

The Ramcharger’s approach to design and marketing is aimed at transforming how consumers perceive it. Kuniskis has strongly committed to avoiding traditional terminology, opting to rebrand the V6 engine as an onboard charger for an electric truck. With a wide range of contemporary features and being offered in familiar trims, the Ramcharger’s design and attributes are poised to capture consumers’ attention, combining technical innovation with appealing aesthetics.
