Skip the app and subscribe to your favorite Channels on your Apple TV

Channels are the easiest way to get third-party content in the Apple TV app. Here's how to subscribe.

With Apple TV Channels, you no longer need a content provider's app to view your shows and movies. Instead, your faves play within the Apple TV app right on your Apple TV. So, if you're new to the Apple TV or you own a smart TV with the Apple TV app installed, such as newer models from Samsung, all you have to do is use the TV app. Your subscriptions will also carry over to your other Apple devices. Here's how to subscribe to Channels in the Apple TV app on your Apple TV.

How to subscribe to Channels in the Apple TV app on Apple TV

Most Channels in the Apple TV app offer a trial, so you can subscribe for free for a limited time, after which you'll be charged for your first month after your free trial period. Once subscribed to a Channel, content recommendations will appear in the Watch Now section of the Apple TV app.

  1. Launch the Apple TV app.
  2. Click on a Channel to which you want to subscribe under Subscribe to Apple TV Channels.

  3. Click Subscribe or Try It Free if there is a trial available.
  4. Click Confirm.

  5. Click Confirm with Apple Device or Confirm with Password to confirm your purchase.

    • Confirm with Apple Device allows you to use your iPhone or Apple Watch to make confirmation easier.
    • Confirm with Password requires you to enter your Apple ID and password using the Siri Remote and the onscreen keyboard.

How to cancel a Channel subscription in the Apple TV app on Apple TV

You can unsubscribe to Apple TV Channels at any time, just like you would with any other service you subscribe to through iOS, iPadOS, macOS, or tvOS. All it takes is a click on the Siri Remote.

  1. Launch the Settings app.
  2. Click Users and Accounts.

  3. Click your User Name.
  4. Click Subscriptions.

  5. Click an Active Subscription.
  6. Click Cancel Subscription or Cancel Trial.

  7. Click Confirm.

Subscribe to your favorite channels with the Apple TV app

With Apple TV Channels, you no longer have to download yet another app or register for an account just to watch your favorite shows and movies. By subscribing to a Channel through your Apple TV, you can browse and binge all of the latest content directly from the Apple TV app with just a few clicks, or with your voice with an Apple TV and Siri Remote.

Updated February 2022: Updated for tvOS 15.

The Nomad Base One adds much-needed heft to MagSafe charging

What you need to know

  • Nomad has announced the Base One MagSafe charger.
  • The MagSafe compatibility extends to 15W fast-charging.
  • The Base One is available for $130.

This thing looks gorgeous but you're going to need to add your own 30W adapter.

Nomad has announced the Base One, a new MagSafe charger that is attached to a chunk of metal and glass to weigh the whole thing down so it doesn't move around.

That, right there, is perhaps the main reason to consider the Base One — and on the face of it, the only reason. Apple's own MagSafe charger is pretty great but it has one big problem — you pick your iPhone up and the charger comes with it. That's an irritation I can do without, so the idea of having 515g of metal and glass holding the Base One down is one I'm absolutely here for. There are two colors to choose from, too — a rather fetching silver and a blacked-out carbide that could make this one of the best iPhone chargers for those who want a stealth aesthetic.

Nomad says the charger is MFi-certified for MagSafe and 15W charging, which is great. But Nomad also says that this charger requires a 30W power adapter whereas Apple's own MagSafe only needs a 20W part. Nomad says that's down to the use of USB-C in terms of cabling. I've reached out to Nomad for clarification. Note that no adapter comes in the box, so you'll need to buy one. Nomad cites environmental reasons, which is fine. But my concern is that the 30W requirement will catch people out and most people have 20W plugs at home.

And then, there's the price. $130 is a lot to pay for a MagSafe charger that needs another $30 or so spending before it will work. That's a shame, too, because this has the potential to be the answer to a lot of MagSafe problems for those with iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 devices.

We'll be giving the Nomad Base One a full review soon enough so keep your eyes peeled for that — hopefully, we'll have some answers on that adapter situation by then, too!

Apple releases fifth iPadOS 15.4 beta to developers

If you want to get in on the developer beta of iPadOS 15, here's how to do that!

iPadOS 15 is here with new features that require third-party developer input. As such, the company is releasing developer betas so that software engineers can get a head start on making great software for you.

Apple occasionally offers updates to iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, tvOS, and macOS as closed developer previews or public betas. While the betas contain new features, they also contain pre-release bugs that can prevent the normal use of your iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV, or Mac, and are not intended for everyday use on a primary device. That's why we strongly recommend staying away from developer previews unless you need them for software development, and using the public betas with caution. If you depend on your devices, wait for the final release.

Apple has officially announced iPadOS 15. There are a lot of changes that need to be tested before it launches to the public this fall, so developers will be able to get their hands on the initial beta version soon.

How to download the iPadOS Restore Image to your Mac

This first part is easy and works just like it does on any Mac operating system.

  1. Navigate to developer.apple.com on your Mac.
  2. Click on the Discover tab.
  3. Click on iPadOS at the top of the screen.
  4. Click Download in the upper right corner.
  5. Log in with your developer account credentials when prompted.
  6. Under iPadOS 15 beta, click on Download Restore Images.
  7. Click on the iOS restore image for the device you're installing the developer beta on.

How to make an archived backup of your iPad

Before you begin, make sure you back up your iPad. While the beta process is fairly straightforward, any time you make any significant change to your device you risk problems. And with your personal data, it's always — always! — better to be safe than sorry. Even if you back up every night, you'll want to make sure it's absolutely up-to-date.

  1. Connect your device to your Mac using the cable it came with.
  2. Launch a Finder window.
  3. Select your connected device under Locations in the sidebar of the Finder window.
  4. Click Pair to pair the device to your Mac.
  5. Tap Trust on the device to confirm that you want to pair it.
  6. Enter your passcode on your device.
  7. If you don't already have a backup on your Mac, click Back Up Now to make a backup.
  8. Click Manage Backups after you've made a recent backup.
  9. Right or Control click on your device backup.
  10. Click Archive.
  11. Click OK.

Archiving will prevent your current backup from being overwritten by an iPadOS backup in the future, should you want to revert for any reason.

How to install the iPadOS beta using your Mac

  1. With your device still connected to your Mac, open a Finder window if you haven't already.
  2. Select your connected device under Locations in the sidebar of the Finder window.
  3. Hold down the Option key and click on Check for Updates. This will launch another window with your recent files.
  4. Click on the IPSW restore image.
  5. Click Open.
  6. Click Update when prompted.

iTunes will now install iPadOS onto your iPad. This process will take some time, and you shouldn't unplug your iPad from your Mac until the update is complete.

How to install the iPadOS beta using a profile

Before you do anything else, make sure you have a developer account with Apple — without a paid account, you won't be able to download any non-Xcode betas.

Thanks to Apple's configuration profile, you can download iPadOS betas directly on your iPad, no Mac required!

  1. Go to developer.apple.com on your iPad.
  2. Tap on the "Discover" tab.
  3. Tap on of the operating system buttons in the bar near the top of the screen.
  4. Tap Download.
  5. Log in with your developer account's username and password.
  6. Go to the iPadOS 15 beta section and tap the download. This will start the process of downloading the iPadOS beta software profile on your iPad.
  7. Tap Close.
  8. Open Settings.
  9. Tap Profile Downloaded.
  10. Tap Install. You may need to enter your Passcode.
  11. Agree to the Consent form and press Install once in the upper right corner, and once at the bottom of the screen.
  12. Press Restart to apply the changes to your iPad.

To install the iPadOS beta, you'll need to visit Software Update on your iPad once you have the profile loaded.

  1. Launch Settings from your Home screen, tap on General, then tap on Software Update.
  2. Once the update appears, tap on Download and Install.
  3. Enter your Passcode.
  4. Tap Agree to the Terms and Conditions.
  5. Tap Agree again to confirm.

Your iPad will reboot to install iPadOS 15. There will be a couple of progress bars going across the screen. Sit tight, and let everything finish.

How to get started with iPadOS beta

Once your iPad reboots, it'll be running iPadOS the latest beta. There's a brief bit of setup you'll need to go through, however, as the system will have changed enough that it'll need your login to complete the update.

  1. Tap Continue.
  2. Enter your Apple ID password. iCloud settings will update, so give it a minute.
  3. Tap Get Started.

Once that's done, you'll be on the Home screen and ready to rock the latest iPadOS beta on your best iPad.

(You can still install the iOS beta on your iPhone by connecting your device to iTunes, but you'll need to be running the Xcode beta first. The method listed below is generally a lot faster, with fewer wires.)

  1. Go to developer.apple.com on your iPhone.
  2. Click on the "Discover" tab.
  3. Click on of the operating system buttons in the bar near the top of the screen.
  4. Tap Download.
  5. Log in with your developer account's username and password.
  6. Go to the iOS 15 beta section and tap the download. This will start the process of downloading the iOS beta software profile on your iPhone.
  7. Tap Close.
  8. Open Settings.
  9. Tap Profile Downloaded.
  10. Tap Install. You may need to enter your Passcode.
  11. Agree to the Consent form and press Install once in the upper right corner, and once at the bottom of the screen.
  12. Press Restart to apply the changes to your iPhone.

To install the beta itself, just visit system preferences.

  1. Launch Settings from your Home screen, tap on General, then tap on Software Update.
  2. Once the update appears, tap on Download and Install.
  3. Enter your Passcode.
  4. Tap Agree to the Terms and Conditions.
  5. Tap Agree again to confirm.

Your iPhone will reboot to install iOS 15. There will be a couple of progress bars going across the screen. Sit tight, and let everything finish.

How to get started with iOS beta

Once your iPhone reboots, it'll be running iOS the latest beta. There's a brief bit of setup you'll need to go through, however, as the system will have changed enough that it'll need your login to complete the update.

  1. Tap Continue.
  2. Enter your Apple ID password. iCloud settings will update, so give it a minute.
  3. Tap Get Started.

Once that's done, you'll be on the Home screen and ready to rock the latest iOS beta on your best iPhone.

Review: Keep track of your minimalist wallet with Snapback Slim Air

This light wallet with a place for your AirTag is convenient and a minimalist's dream.

When I go out, I usually carry a purse with me that has a bulky wallet that can fit the dozens of cards that I need, you know, just in case. But honestly, I really just use two main credit cards and I always need my ID on me. So while I pretty much carry the kitchen sink and then some when it comes to wallets, it's not the best option if I just go out for a walk somewhere real quick. That's when I need something minimal enough for just the bare essentials.

That's where the Snapback Slim Air comes in. This is a very minimal wallet that can hold up to six cards and a few folded bills. But the best part? It has a tiny pouch so you can slip an AirTag in it, allowing you to keep track of it in the Find My app on your favorite iPhone.

Is the Snapback Air Slim worth a purchase? Let's take a look.

Bottom line: Carry your essential cards in this minimalist wallet that also has a pouch for your AirTag.

The Good

  • Minimalist design
  • Holds up to six cards and some folded bills
  • Pocket for AirTag
  • Made with premium Italian leather
  • Tough and durable

The Bad

  • Hard to get cards out if stuffed too full
  • Leather expands with more cards, may be loose if cards removed
  • AirTag cutout may not be a perfect fit
  • Expensive

$55 at Snapback Wallet

Snapback Slim Air: Price and availability

You can find the Snapback Slim Air only on the Snapback Wallet website. It comes in two colors: black and brown leather. One Snapback Slim Air wallet costs $55. But you can use the code "IMORE5" to get $5 off your order.

Snapback Slim Air: Keep track of your minimalistic, essential carry

The Snapback Slim Air is made of premium Italian leather and it's handmade in the U.S. as well. When purchasing one, you have two options of leather color: black or brown. For my review, I just received the black color. I'd imagine that the brown leather would develop a fantastic patina over time, so if that's your thing, then go for the brown, because it's less noticeable on black leather.

The leather itself is soft and supple and carries that genuine leather scent, so you know this is the good stuff. The pieces of leather are stitched together with impeccable detail, though you may have some slight imperfections like a bit of extra thread. This is to be expected though, as each wallet is handmade. Not a big deal, but just something to note. The black one has black stitching, while the brown one has white stitching, making it more noticeable.

The Snapback Air Slim has enough room for up to six cards and you can even slip in an AirTag to keep track of it.

The interior of the wallet also has enough of a "grip" to keep your cards in place with a snug fit. The Snapback Slim Air is advertised to hold up to six cards and some folded bills too. In my test, I tried putting six of my cards in and while they all fit, due to the thickness of certain cards, it was incredibly tight and hard to get them out. So if you have six cards with average thinness (think a regular plastic credit card), then it should not be a problem. But if you have a thicker card, such as the titanium Apple Card, then the fit gets a little tight the more cards you stuff in there. The leather does expand though but needs a little bit of "break-in" time.

On the front of the Snapback Slim Air is a small pocket with a hole cutout in the middle. This is where you can slide in an AirTag and it's designed to have the Apple logo facing out. It's also pretty easy to get the AirTag out if you need to pop a new battery in or change wallets, so it's not going to be permanently stuck in there. Since this is leather, the lines and cutouts aren't going to be 100% precise but it's pretty close. I did notice that you can see some of the white on the AirTag poking through, but it's not a big deal. Having the AirTag does add a little bit of a bulge, so if you want to stick to the "slim" part of the wallet, you'll want to make sure you don't overstuff the sleeve with cards.

It's important to note that the Snapback Slim Air with an AirTag is not meant to be anti-theft. If someone takes your wallet, they'll see the AirTag and can easily remove it. This product is designed to help make it easier for you to find your misplaced wallet in a place like your home.

Thanks to the Snapback Slim Air living up to the "slim" name, this is one of those wallets that can easily fit in pretty much any pocket. I've been living in leggings with pockets for the past few months, so it easily slips in without issues. It should also fit in the front pockets of jeans without a problem, even if you have small pockets. However, depending on the number of cards you have as well as the AirTag itself, it may stick out a bit while in a pocket.

Snapback Slim Air: The fit can be too snug depending on card thickness

While the Snapback Slim Air is well-designed for a minimalist wallet with an AirTag holder, it's not perfect. I did notice that if you really pack your cards in, depending on the thickness of the cards, it can be a little hard to get them out because of the snug fit. Your mileage may vary, but I don't think I would use this with more than 3-4 cards, tops.

Depending on the thickness of your cards, six may result in some difficulty in getting your cards out.

And since the leather expands as you fit more cards in, if you reduce your load, then the cards that you keep in there may feel a little loose. I haven't had issues with my cards falling out though, so it should be fine if you aren't purposely trying to make everything fall out. While we're on the subject of leather, again, the cutout for the AirTag may expose some of the white shell, but it's hardly noticeable. There's no rigid structure to the wallet itself, so it is never fully flat.

Lastly, the Snapback Slim Air is definitely not a super cheap wallet, all things considered. It's $55 and is super minimalistic, holding up to six cards at once. You're mostly paying for the convenience factor of having a spot to put an AirTag in on something so simple. But if that's what you've been looking for this entire time, then the cost may be worth it to you.

Snapback Slim Air: Competition

While the market seems to be flooding with options for MagSafe wallets, the selection of AirTag wallets is slimmer pickings. If you're looking for something that is premium and doesn't have the AirTag in a very obvious spot (in case it's stolen), then the Geometric Goods Leather AirTag billfold wallet is a great choice. It comes in six different colors, and the AirTag is tucked away under a hidden pocket, so thieves can't just throw it out if they have your wallet. It can also hold up to seven cards and dollar bills and can be personalized. However, it's quite pricey at $113.

For those who want something that is relatively inexpensive but practical, the leChivée Slim Wallet for AirTag Case is a good option. It has a neutral carbon fiber aesthetic and is quite slim, but can still hold several cards with eight different slots compartments. The AirTag goes in a case on the exterior of the wallet to protect from scratches, so again, it won't deter thieves but helps you find it in case you misplace it around the house. And it's less than $15, so it's super affordable.

Snapback Slim Air: Should you buy it?

You should buy this if ...

  • You only carry a few cards and some cash
  • You want a minimalistic wallet with AirTag support
  • You like leather goods

You shouldn't buy this if...

  • You want an inexpensive wallet
  • You need to carry more than a few cards
  • You want an AirTag hidden away and not out in the open

If you're the type of person who just needs to carry an ID and maybe one or two credit cards, along with a folded bill or two, then the Snapback Slim Air is perfect. It carries the bare essentials and has a slot to put an AirTag to help you locate it if you misplace it around the house. It's made with genuine premium Italian leather that is soft and supple, which should develop a rich patina over time (more obvious on the brown).

4 out of 5

But if you need to carry more than six cards and prefer to have a place to keep receipts and all that, then the Snapback Slim Air is definitely not for you. It gets hard to get your cards out easily when there are more cards packed in, so it's definitely recommended to keep a lighter load with this. And it only comes in leather, so if you're vegan or not a fan of leather goods, then you'll need to look elsewhere. It's also pretty pricey for what it is, but you do pay for the convenience of adding an AirTag to something so small and slim.

Bottom line: This minimalist wallet holds up to six cards and some cash while having a pouch for an AirTag.
