Amazon is letting iOS users share clips of Prime Video content

What you need to know

  • Amazon is letting people share clips from its Prime Video app on iPhone and iPad.
  • Clips of up to 30 seconds can be shared.

It's only available in the United States, however.

Amazon is taking the unusual step of allowing people to share content from within its Prime Video app, making it easier than ever to show clips of your favorite show on social media.

Unlike Netflix and Apple TV+, Amazon Prime Video is going to let people share clips of up to 30 seconds in length, complete with sound. The move was announced by Amazon yesterday and it's a big departure from the way streaming services normally try to avoid anything even remotely like sharing clips or screenshots.

There are caveats, though. This will only be available on select Amazon Original series, and even then, it's only going to be an option to people in the United States. At least for now.

With X-Ray technology, Prime Video customers can now share their favorite clips from select Amazon Original series with friends and family on social media, or via direct message. From the first scene in Season One of The Boys, to the first time Toni and Shelby meet in The Wilds, to that jaw-dropping reveal at the end of Invincible Episode One, and the many adventures of Dale, Derica, Benny, and Truman in Fairfax, there are plenty of snackable scenes to share.

Right now the feature is available for the first season of The Boys as well as The Wilds, Invincible, and Fairfax. Amazon says more Amazon Original movies and series will follow, however.

Amazon will presumably be hoping that sharing of clips will increase sign-ups. If you do sign up for Amazon Prime Video and want a hot new TV to watch it on, check out our list of the best TVs of the year before placing any orders!
