Learn how Jeff the robot came to life in this new 'Finch' promo video

What you need to know

  • A new Apple TV+ video shows how the team behind Finch created Jeff.
  • The video shows how Jeff was more than just CGI, with an actor and a real model involved in filming.

There's more to it than just CGI.

In terms of Apple TV+ favorites, Tom Hanks' movie Finch has to be at the top of the pile. The movie tells the story of Hanks' titular character as he tries to build a robot that will look after his dog when he's gone. And while you might expect that robot to have been a fully CGI-created effect, that was very much not the case. Apple shares the details in a new promo video published to YouTube today.

In the video, we get to hear from Hanks as well as the people tasked with bringing Jeff to life. That included actor Caleb Landry Jones and real physical models to help tell the story alongside some top-notch CGI work. And the results speak for themselves.

Check out the video — don't worry, there are no spoilers here.

See how Caleb Landry Jones and a team of engineers, animators, and puppeteers were able to bring a powerfully human performance to artificial intelligence in Finch.

Those who have yet to see Finch can fix that right now — it's available to stream on Apple TV+ and is a must-watch. Priced at just $4.99 per month, Apple TV+ is among the best value in streaming today. It's also included in the Apple One subscription bundle, too.
