Make sure you disable auto-save and save manually before heading inside.
What you need to know
- Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are remakes of the Generation four games that debuted on the Nintendo DS.
- A glitch is causing players to soft-lock themselves into the Veilstone City Gym.
- Disabling auto-save and saving manually outside of the gym is recommended.
Some players are encountering a glitch in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl where they are glitched into trainers in the Veilstone City Gym, unable to leave or challenge the gym leader. User MiseDawg on Reddit recounts their experience, saying that even escaping to the Grand Underground hasn't allowed them to leave, meaning that they're essentially stuck until they can receive assistance from Nintendo.
An excerpt from the post reads:
Just a warning everyone, I was pushed into the couple in Veilstone by the Skuntank and glitched behind them and now I'm stuck. I went into the grand underground thinking I could black out into a Pokémon center, but to my dismay Roark healed my team after I wiped out in underground!
Apparently, it's also possible to get stuck inside the gym's puzzle involving moving snowballs, as seen in this video from user DistantKingdom on YouTube.
If you haven't gotten to Veilstone City Gym, it's better to disable auto-save in your game's settings, complete the gym as needed, and then save again. You can then choose to re-enable auto-save if you so desire. Disabling auto-save and saving manually ensures that you can reset the game without being soft-locked, should you happen to encounter this glitch. Alternatively, you could keep an Abra or Ralts with the move Teleport on your team, so that you can escape any situation in an emergency.
There's no word from Nintendo on this glitch as of this writing, but we'll be sure to keep you updated.
Let's go, Sinnoh!
