Investors should 'support Apple' by buying new iPhones, says advisor

What you need to know

  • One financial advisor and AAPL shareholder says investors should buy new gear to "support Apple".
  • Financial adviser Paul Lane reckons he likes to buy the latest iPhones and Macs to help the company he invests in.
  • Lane also wants others to do the same.

It's absolutely nothing to do with protecting their investment, of course.

Those who own shares in Apple should also buy the latest and greatest the company has to offer, according to one financial advisor. The reason isn't just that it means they get hot new toys to play with — it's so they can "support" Apple.

According to financial advisor Paul Lane via Philip Elmer-DeWitt's Apple 3.0, he buys new Apple gear to help support the company he invests in. A company that will "handsomely fund my retirement."

Like most of your subscribers I have owned shares in Apple for many years. It is my largest investment and (fingers crossed) will continue to handsomely fund my retirement.

In return, I support Apple in my own way by…

That way involves buying new iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, and Macs. And Apple Care and Apple One, for that matter.

The impact on Apple of these actions may be minuscule, but I feel it's the least I can do. As a bonus, my wife and I get to own and enjoy the latest Apple products. In addition, by showing off our new acquisitions to friends and colleagues, we've probably helped Apple make some extra sales.

Lane goes on to suggest everyone else who invests in Apple should do the same, apparently as a way to "give back to Apple." I'm sure none of those suggestions are at all related to making sure AAPL continues to perform well enough to pay for that retirement.

At least those looking to give back will have plenty of ways to do that soon. New iPhone 13 models will likely arrive next month, shortly followed by a new Apple Watch Series 7 and much more. The best portable Mac ever will also arrive in the form of a new Apple silicon-powered 16-inch MacBook Pro, if you believe recent reports.
