Will Distortion World and Giratina make an appearance in Pokémon BDSP?

SPOILER WARNING: This article features some spoilers for the Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl games.

Best answer: Giratina is in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, however, the Distortion World first seen in Platinum isn't nearly the same as it was on the DS. It's more like a Distortion Room with a small walkway that doesn't go very far.

Distortion World may be gone

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is a remake of the Nintendo DS Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, as well as Pokémon Platinum. Pokémon Platinum was an enhanced version of the games made two years after the original games.

Pokémon Platinum is where Distortion World made its first appearance in the games, so there were questions as to whether it would appear in the remakes, especially since there were a few changes made compared to the originals. Although it hasn't been confirmed by Nintendo yet, based on reliable leaks it sounds as if Distortion World won't be making an appearance in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Who is Giratina and what is the Distortion World?

Giratina is a Ghost / Dragon Legendary Pokémon that appeared in the original Diamond and Pearl games on the Nintendo DS. Being a Legendary Pokémon means it's a rare and powerful creature that can be difficult to catch, but are also literally apart of legends by the people in those areas. Previous Pokédex entries Giratina is identified as a Pokémon banished to the Distortion World, and it's noted that it resides there.

What makes Giratina unique is its two forms. In Diamond and Pearl, Distortion World was where you see the Origin Forme and outside of Distortion World you see Giratina in the Altered Forme unless you obtain the Platinum Orb. In Pokémon Platinum, the Origin Forme was only available with the Griseous Orb. In the original game, players are required to beat all the gyms, the Elite Four, and the Champion before they could attempt to catch Giratina.

Distortion World is a parallel universe where players were able to catch the legendary Giratina. It's called Distortion World because of the odd physics in the space. While roaming the area, players could be walking sideways, upside down, and in all kinds of other funky ways.

As of now, we have no information on how to obtain Giratina in either form in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. Leakers have stated that although there isn't a Distortion World, there is a room with a walkway that is similar to the Distortion World. Players can enter this room to get the Griseous Orb.

Keep an eye out

It's strange to consider that this iconic Legendary won't have its original home area. Although this information is based on reliable leaks, Nintendo has not said whether these changes have been made or not.

If this is a change that has been made, it will be interesting to see if this causes changes in Giratina's story and if they choose to explain why there isn't a Distortion World anymore. It will also be a shame to play without the cool, wacky physics this new dimension offered. Either way, we are still very excited to get this game back in our hands in a new mobile form on the Nintendo Switch.
