Apple reportedly won't go portless with any iPhone 13, despite rumors

What you need to know

  • YouTuber EverythingApplePro and leaker Max Weinbach say Apple won't go portless with any iPhone this year.
  • This comes after leaker Jon Prosser suggested at least one iPhone will ship without a Lightning port.

Will it or won't it?

A new YouTube video by EverythingApplePro claims that Apple will not ditch the Lightning connector on this year's iPhone 13. That despite claims by the recently eyebrow-less Jon Prosser that one iPhone would be portless this time around.

Citing leaker Max Weinbach, EverythingApplePro confirms much of what we've been hearing elsewhere including the use of a smaller notch and a 120Hz display. An always-on screen thanks to the use of LPTO tech is also claimed, but it's the Lightning port that is most interesting here.

Here's what Jon Prosser said towards the end of last year:

Now contrast that with EverythingApplePro's video. The interesting parts start around the seven-minute mark.

Massive iPhone 13 Pro Leaks Update! New lens design, matte black color, bronze/copper color, new anti-fingerprint coating, tiny notch, bigger batteries, NO portless models, 1TB storage, smaller logic boards & so much more!

So there we have it. Specifically mentioning that the Lightning port won't be ditched "even on one iPhone" suggests something might have changed in recent months. Apple does tend to run with multiple prototypes in the works as it begins to lock in features and designs for a new product. Could Apple have simply decided that it wasn't ready to go portless?

Maybe that wireless restore functionality isn't quite up to snuff just yet.

Regardless of what happens in or around September, Apple still has the best iPhone it ever made available right now.
