MHR: The Insect Glaive lets you perform aerial attacks and command a bug

Vault around and harvest buffs from monsters with the Insect Glaive.

If you're looking for a Monster Hunter Rise weapon that gives you plenty of mobility and jumping action, then the Insect Glaive is for you. It's rather unique compared to the game's other 14 weapon types as it allows you to instruct a Kinsect to harvest stat boosting extracts from the monsters you fight. It kinda makes you feel like Shino Aburame from Naruto.

I love how versatile the different weapons are in Monster Hunter Rise. Taking the time to master the ones that match your fighting style will help you see why it is one of the best Nintendo Switch games out there. To help you get a better feel for the Insect Glaive, I'll go over its attacks, Silkbind moves, and best builds.

Monster Hunter Rise Insect Glaive fighting style

The Insect Glaive is a rapid striking weapon with great range. It can dispatch insects called Kinsects to harvest ability boosts from monsters that you can then apply to yourself (notice the green beetle on the hunter's arm in the pic above). This special weapon also allows you to jump into the air for some fast-paced aerial attacks.

Monster Hunter Rise Insect Glaive controls

Controls Function
X Rising Slash Combo
A Wide Sweep
ZR + X Kinsect: Harvest Extract
ZR + A Kinsect: Recall
ZR + R Kinsect: Fire
ZR Kinsect: Mark Target
ZR + B Vault
X (in midair) Aerial Attack
A (in midair) Jumping Advancing Slash
B (in midair) Midair Evade
  • Kinsect: Harvest Extract Your Kinsect allows you to gather Extracts, which come in three types: red, white, and orange. Which color Extract you get depends on the monster's body part. Red boosts attack, white increases speed, and orange gives knockback protection. You can absorb a blend of colors and mix them together to gain incredible attack power and other useful effects.
  • Kinsect: Fire Marking a monster will tell Kinsects to target that part with their attacks (note that this effect disappears when you sheathe your weapon). Some Kinsects will automatically attack once a target is marked, while there are others that spread Kinsect dust when they attack. This dust explodes when hit.
  • Silkbind Vault A Silkbind attack that spins forwards.
  • Recall Kinsect A Silkbind attack that calls your Kinsect back while you evade. As it returns, it will perform spinning attacks that scatter healing extracts. Its stamina will fully recover once it gets back to its master.
  • Normal Type A Kinsect with no special characteristics.
  • Powder Type When a target is marked, the Kinsect will attack it automatically, leaving behind a cloud of dust called Kinsect Powder. When struck, the powder will detonate. (Effective until the Kinsect is recalled).
  • Assist Type Can utilize three types of extract. When mounted on your hunter's arm, it will attack together with your hunter.
  • Speed Type Automatically charges up when mounted on your hunter's arm. The Insect Glaive will glow blue to indicate the Kinsect is fully charged, at which point the Kinsect's attack power is increased.

Power Prolonger Makes it so buffs last longer, which is useful paired with the Kinsect.
Attack Boost As you'd guess, this increases the Insect Glaive's attack. You'll be happiest if you get it to level 4 or higher.
