What you need to know
- Apple will release new MacBook Pros this year, according to a new report.
- Rumored MacBook Pro refreshes are expected to have beefy new Apple silicon inside with blazing-fast speeds.
Just not before September.
Apple will release new "MacBook Pros" — multiple — later this year, according to a new report. A new 16-inch MacBook Pro has been heavily rumored and now it looks closer than ever to a release.
According to a new report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple will launch "revamped MacBook Pros" before this year draws to a close. Don't expect that to happen imminently, however, with Gurman also noting that there won't be any new events before the iPhone 13 announcement this September.
The same goes for a new iPad mini, too.
We're about three months away from the next iPhone and Apple Watch models going on sale—along with the releases of iOS 15, iPadOS 15 and watchOS 8, so stay tuned for plenty of news on those after the summer doldrums. And don't forget about the iPad and Mac: Apple has a new entry-level iPad for students and revamped MacBook Pros and iPad minis coming later this year, too.
When Apple does announce the new 16-inch MacBook Pro, it's expected to be a monster. Previous Bloomberg reports have it shipping with as many as 32 graphics cores and 12 processing cores.
As great as that sounds, I'll be interested to see how much such a notebook would cost The current 16-inch MacBook Pro is a costly monster of a machine, but that price is at least in part dictated by Intel's processor prices That won't be a factor this time around. That said, I think I'll check out the best MacBook available today instead.
