Everything you need to know about Sustainability Week in Pokémon Go

Help the planet to unlock in-game rewards.

Earth Day is April 22, and Pokémon is celebrating with its first-ever Sustainability Week, which runs from 10 a.m. April 20 through 8 p.m. April 25. The event is meant to award players for taking eco-friendly actions in the real world with rewards in-game. Read on for everything you need to know to make the most of the event.

What is Pokémon Go Sustainability Week?

Pokemon Go developer Niantic began celebrating Earth Day in 2018 by teaming up with organizations worldwide to host park and beach cleanups, giving special rewards based on the number of trainers who participated. While Earth Day activities were canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they've returned this year as part of the new Pokémon Go Sustainability Week.

Players are encouraged to help fight climate change and take care of the planet through activities including picking up trash, building bee hotels, changing the way they commute, and volunteering. If they share a picture and a description about how they are helping the planet on Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram with the hashtag #SustainableWIthNiantic, their activity will count towards unlocking these in-game rewards:

  • Five-star raids will appear more after 2,500 activations.
  • The shop will stock a free bundle containing three Remote Raid Passes after 5,000 activations.
  • All trainers will earn double XP from catching Pokémon after 10,000 activations.

Niantic will donate $5,000 to the three nonprofits tagged in the most social posts. You can also pick up a free Sustainability Week avatar T-shirt from the shop during the event.
