Siri accidentally reveals April 20 Apple event

What you need to know

  • Apple is expected to hold an April event.
  • Siri appears to have confirmed this will take place on April 20.
  • It could see the release of AirTags and a new iPad Pro.

Apple's helpful voice accident Siri appears to have just revealed Apple's plans for an April event, telling users that it will take place on April 20 when asked.

First spotted by MacRumors, there are numerous reports that on asking Siri when the next Apple event is it replies:

The special event is on Tuesday, April 20, at Apple Park in Cupertino, CA. You can get all the details on Apple.com

The response is not given for users in the UK as far as we can tell, with multiple other users also stating that not every region is giving the same answer.

The news is vindication for Apple leaker Jon Prosser, who was incorrect in reporting that an Apple event would be held in March, before updating his prediction to April based on separate information.

Apple is expected to unveil its new AirTags, small Bluetooth tracking beacons, alongside a new iPad Pro, expected to be the best iPad yet. Yesterday Bloomberg reported that Apple plans to announce a new iPad in the second half of April, but that its new mini-LED display is causing supply issues. From that report:

The refreshed iPad Pro, at least in 12.9-inch guise, is expected to ship with a new Mini-LED screen and it's that part in particular that could cause stock issues for those looking to bag a new tablet.

That's according to a new Bloomberg report which notes that the tech is proving difficult to produce, with poor manufacturing yields set to cause a shortfall in overall production numbers.

The Cupertino, California-based tech giant plans to showcase a new MiniLED display technology in the 12.9-inch iPad Pro set to be announced as early as the second half of April. But the firm's overseas suppliers are dealing with poor manufacturing yields, the people who asked not to be named discussing sensitive matters said. At least one of the MiniLED makers has had to recently pause production as a result, one person added.

That report said that Apple still wants to go ahead with the announcement, which this latest Apple event development backs up. It's very unlikely that this information is not correct from Siri, as there's no reason for it to be there otherwise. If the April event is scheduled for the 20th, we can expect a more official announcement later today.
