Get ready to whip your cameras out again real soon.

What you need to know

  • New Pokémon Snap released for Nintendo Switch at the end of April.
  • Additional Pokémon and locations will be added to the game as a free update.
  • The update releases on August 3.

After years of waiting for a sequel, New Pokémon Snap finally joined the best Pokémon games on Nintendo Switch back in April. It's been a few months since then, but The Pokémon Company hasn't been sitting idle. A recent announcement just revealed that some free content will be coming to the game on Tuesday, August 3, 2021.

There isn't a lot of information to go off of, but we do know that more Pokémon and locations to explore will be added to New Pokémon Snap. The trailer also shows that the NEO-ONE car that players ride in will be able to shrink and access new places, like holes in trees.

The game initially launched with only 217 Pokémon of the nearly 900 Pokémon currently in existence. It's unclear how many Pokémon will be added to New Pokémon Snap at this time, but we'll keep an eye out and will update as soon as we can.

We have already spotted a few new Pokémon in the new trailer:

  • Mew
  • Ho-Oh
  • Psyduck
  • Feraligatr
  • Swalot
  • Rockruff

Something strange is happening in the Lental region making some Pokémon glow and behave differently. It's up to you to catalog what you see and discover what's going on. There are hundreds of Pokémon to see along the way.
